One of the biggest issues Diana Prince faces in Absolute Wonder Woman is the absence of the Amazons. In the series' opener, readers learn that the gods not only imprisoned them, but also made it so their names can’t even be said. Diana was the first person to successfully speak it in decades. This is due to a prophecy the gods heard and may have set in motion with the Amazon's banishment.
If you're a fan of Nubia, Hippolyta, Artemis of Bana-Mighdall, and Donna Troy, there's good news coming. The start of Kelly Thompson’s newest Absolute Wonder Woman story arc (As My Mother Made Me) may change the lack of Amazons in this universe. To make things more interesting, help is coming from a source no one would have expected.

At the beginning of the issue, Wonder Woman is putting letters on birds. She's hoping that her words reach her sisters and get back to her; if they do, she can find and rescue them. It's a long shot, but at the moment, it's all she has.
Meanwhile, the mysterious Director Cale visits one of her prisoners in Dr. Poison. Cale wants to weaponize the sound the Tetracide made (Absolute Wonder Woman issues 1-6). Instead of doing what she was asked, Dr. Poison uses the device to bring Diana to her. Before Diana could hit Dr. Poison for using the Tetracide’s sound and hurting people, she says: “I know where you can find an Amazon!” That was enough to stop Diana in her tracks.
Can Doctor Poison be trusted in Absolute Wonder Woman?
There are a couple of things that I wondered about at the end of this issue. First among them, can Diana trust Dr. Poison? In the main DC Comics and the DCU, Dr. Poison is a villain. That made me skeptical until I remembered this is the Absolute Universe. Everything is upside down. Even this universe’s Mirror Master seems to be more than a villain. And, despite her villainous name, Dr. Poison could be an ally.
Secondly, how does she know where an Amazon is? The easy guess is that they’re in the same place Dr Poison is. It would make sense; Area 41 seems like a facility that steals artifacts and keeps people in cells.
If that’s the case, then there will be more things there that tie into Wonder Woman’s lore. It could have the potion that turns Barbara Minerva into Cheetah, a way to make Giganta, and who knows what else. One thing for sure is that Dr. Poison won't be the only dangerous person or thing to come from Director Cale.
