Back in 2019, Earth's Mightiest Heroes assembled one last time to defeat Thanos and bring half of the universe back to life. Since then, a new saga focused on the Multiverse has begun, and audiences have witnessed three entire Marvel Cinematic Universe phases come to life on the big screen.
Still, the Avengers have been out of the picture during all of this time, and we've only received small hints of their reunion. Fortunately, that will change next year in the biggest way possible.
What's better than Earth's Mightiest Heroes making a comeback? The fact that the X-Men are along for the ride, of course. The official Avengers: Doomsday cast reveal took the world by surprise by unveiling that characters from the Fox era will return after a long hiatus to participate in one of the most ambitious superhero movies to date.
But while the upcoming crossover will be all about revisiting previously introduced characters, it will also bring new things to the table that fans have rarely seen before, as a new report reveals.

The X-Men will reportedly have comic book-accurate suits in Avengers: Doomsday
According to renowned industry insider Daniel Richtman, the X-Men will finally don comic book-accurate costumes in Avengers: Doomsday after years of sporting less faithful looks in the Fox movies. This shouldn't come as a big surprise, taking into account the MCU's recent track record when it comes to crafting super suits.
Logan's design in Deadpool & Wolverine was pulled straight from comic book pages, and even when the studio takes slight creative liberties in this department, they usually create something akin to the Sentry's costume (which is still pretty faithful to the source material). Mysterio, Sam Wilson's Captain America, Spider-Man, Galactus, Gambit, and many other characters have benefited from having a suit that's almost a one-to-one replica of the comics.
So, it's exciting to learn that the X-Men will get the same treatment.
Interestingly enough, the same report also mentions that fans might be about to witness the superhero face-off of a lifetime. Earth's Mightiest Heroes are rumored to battle the X-Men in the Avengers: Doomsday, and this isn't the first time we've heard about the potential fight.
Back in March 2024, reliable scooper Alex Perez stated that Marvel might look to adapt this comic book event onto the big screen before the release of Avengers: Secret Wars. Furthermore, Nightcrawler actor Alan Cumming revealed that he filmed a scene where his character fought against Pedro Pascal's Reed Richards.
Both the MCU and Fox's X-Men franchise have been years in the making, and Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars will be the only chance fans will have of watching characters from both worlds interact with each other. So, the idea of a fight between them seems like a no-brainer. After all, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed that the X-Men will be recast after the events of Secret Wars, which will forever change the status quo of the MCU, much like it happened in comic book pages.
During the next two Avengers movies, we'll bid our farewells to the current Multiverse storyline and many ongoing portrayals of iconic characters. The idea of watching the heroes we grew up with finally wear comic-book-accurate costumes while crossing over with other worlds before their definite goodbye is bittersweet, although nothing short of exciting. After all, Deadpool & Wolverine proved that such a recipe might work wonders.
Avengers: Doomsday will be released on Dec. 18, 2026.
