It's been over half a decade since Earth's Mightiest Heroes assembled on the big screen to undo Thanos' blip and restore half of the life in the universe. Naturally, fans are eager for the stars to align once again and see heroes from all corners of the Marvel Cinematic Universe come together in Avengers: Doomsday. On the bright side, we're in for the biggest crossover of all time if the casting announcement is anything to go by.
Over 25 characters are officially announced to appear in Marvel's highly anticipated movie, with Kevin Feige stating that there's room for more. But while it is exciting to know that almost everyone will be there, we can help but wonder how the Russo brothers will balance such a crowded project. Granted, their work on Avengers: Infinity War and Engame has proven they are more than capable of shining the spotlight on many heroes at the same time. That being said, Doomsday is shaping up to be a whole different league, which might raise some concerns. We don't want another The Amazing Spider-Man 2 scenario, after all.
Fortunately, a new report indicates what type of dynamic we should expect from all these different heroes, and it is something no Avengers movie has ever done before.

Avengers: Doomsday will reportedly feature 3 different teams of Avengers
According to renowned and reliable insider, Alex Perez, there will be "at least" three different groups of Avengers during the events of Avengers: Doomsday. So far, audiences have been introduced to one of them and know about the other's existence. During the Thunderbolts* ending (and promotional materials), Yelena Belova, Ghost, U.S. Agent, Red Guardian, Bucky, and Bob were revealed to be the New Avengers. Furthermore, Sam Wilson was tasked by the former president of the United States to create yet another group of Avengers during Captain America: Brave New World. The only question remaining is: Can Sam form his team just in time for Avengers: Doomsday?
Alex Perez also revealed that the "official" group of Earth's Mightiest Heroes was already created. The only downside? It happened offscreen. But at this point, there are two Avengers teams living and breathing in the MCU. So what about the third one? Well, during the post-credits scene of The Marvels, audiences witnessed Kamala Khan recruit Kate Bishop for her very own group (likely a version of Champions / The Young Avengers). Besides, leaked concept art presumed to be for Avengers: Doomsday revealed the roster of this upcoming team, comprised of new MCU blood.
With the possibility of more than three different Avengers line-ups existing at the same time, you'd imagine Doctor Doom would have a hard time conquering the multiverse. However, it appears this exact approach will be the heroes' undoing. Since all these groups will fight their own battle on their own rights (instead of doing so together), they will ultimately give the ruler of Latveria the upper hand. It seems to be a similar scenario to that of Infinity War, where Captain America and his part of the team tried to defeat Thanos in Wakanda, while Iron Man and the Guardians of the Galaxy attempted to do so on Titan to no avail.
To make matters worse, it appears that some of these new Avengers groups won't be exactly on good terms. Alex Perez reported that the reason Sam doesn't approve of The New Avengers is because the group is comprised of "mercenaries, killers, and weapons of mass destruction". We've already seen a bit of this conflict during the post-credits scene of Thunderbolts*, where it was revealed Sam even copyrighted the "Avengers" keyword to prevent anyone else from using the same name.
As if that wasn't enough, the former members of the Thunderbolts don't know what's going on regarding the ongoing "space crisis". So it seems some Avengers teams will have more intel than others. With that in mind, it's easy to see why this disconnection between all of the MCU heroes could prove to be the key to Doom's success.
It isn't a secret that there are many different Avengers groups on comic book pages, so the idea of watching this concept translated to the big screen is exciting, to say the least. Fortunately, we don't have a long wait ahead of us to finally watch it for ourselves.
Avengers: Doomsday will be released on May 1, 2026.
