Beloved Star Wars show will officially return for another season this year

Andor isn't the last Star Wars release of 2025 after all, as there are more adventures from that galaxy so far, far away on the horizon.

Disney Plus has been the home for the Star Wars franchise for the past six years. One of Hollywood's most iconic film series spawned its new era with The Mandalorian in 2019 and it hasn't looked back since, producing spinoffs, standalones, and even sequels to some of the most beloved Star Wars movies. It was all happening on the small screen.

There were some occasional glitches in the journey back to that galaxy so far, far away. While The Mandalorian became the saga's most successful ongoing series and Obi-Wan Kenobi brought back Ewan McGregor's beloved Jedi to become one of Disney Plus' most successful ever titles, The Acolyte crumbled under the pressure of its huge budget and The Book of Boba Fett didn't live up to expectations.

As Lucasfilm and Disney Plus recalibrate the next chapters of the Star Wars story (many of which will be back on the big screen), the good news is that the Star Wars streaming era isn't quite over yet. And with that, one beloved series from our favorite galaxy is on its way back to screens this year.

Star Wars: Visions returns with its third season this October

Star Wars: Visions will return to Disney Plus this year as its long-awaited third season will premiere on October 29. The announcement came at Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo in which executive producer James Waugh revealed the date and teased fans with some of what they can expect from season 3, which is titled Volume 3.

The beloved animated show originally premiered back in 2021 and it's known for its unique take - or takes - on the Star Wars lore. Visions is an anthology series, telling stories that are either set in the Star Wars universe or inspired by it. Each episode is standalone and are worked on by various studios.

As each one tries its own thing, the narratives and animation styles are concocted by the respective studio working on each of them (with Lucasfilm's guidance of course). The first season was a collection of nine anime episodes while the second featured more international animation studios, resulting in even more unique and different designs for each installment.

Season 3, however, will take more inspiration from the first season - in more ways than one. Not only will it return to all installments being anime adventures, it will also break the standalone streak as the popular season 1 character The Ronin will return for another story. That episode's director, Takanobu Mizuno, will also return to bring the new one to life.

That character became a sensation after that episode, even starring in his own spinoff novel (Star Wars: Ronin: A Visions Novel), so it goes without saying that fans are extremely excited at the thought of another episode starring the mysterious, wandering Jedi from another world.

There had been some recent concerns that Disney had shifted its plans after a content trailer for the second half of 2025 didn't mention it, but since this announcement was made at Star Wars Celebration, we can still expect to see the beloved animated show return this October
