5 things you need to remember before Daredevil: Born Again season 2

Daredevil: Born Again season 2 is almost upon us. Here's everything you should keep in mind before the new season premieres (from both the first season and the Netflix series).

The second season of Daredevil: Born Again is right around the corner as Disney Plus is adopting an annual release strategy for the show. Yes, that means that - much like broadcast TV - audiences can expect new seasons on an annual basis. It's a new approach for the streamer, which rarely renewed Marvel Cinematic Universe shows for more outings, but it's a welcome one - particularly as the Daredevil character is no stranger to ongoing, serialized television.

Born Again is a revival of the Netflix series that ran for three seasons between 2015 and 2018, and the upcoming second season promises to be more in-line with its predecessor than its first season was. The Devil of Hell's Kitchen will be taking the fight to his longtime archenemy Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. the Kingpin, who has become the Mayor of New York City and outlawed vigilantes in the years since their original showdowns. But that has only energized the man behind the mask, Matt Murdock, to take him down once and for all.

With Daredevil: Born Again season 2 almost upon us, here's what you should remember from the first season (and the Netflix series) before diving into the new episodes starting March 24.

Daredevil is building an army to battle Fisk

When we last saw Daredevil in the season 1 finale of Born Again, he had decided that the only way to defeat Wilson Fisk this time around was to do something he wasn't used to doing: Ask for help. Matt opened up to Karen Page about what he felt he needed to do, and together, the pair began amassing an army of heroes to stop Fisk and his Anti-Vigilante Task Force.

Right now, that army consists of Daredevil himself, Karen, Cherry, Detective Angie Kim, Josie, and more angry New Yorkers who want to take their city back from Fisk. However, we know that army is going to grow immensely heading into season 2, as DD will be recruiting more heroes to his crusade. And, most excitingly of all, it will feature a number of familiar faces from the Netflix series.

We know that Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones will make her long-awaited return to the MCU to join Daredevil in the fight, while Royce Johnson is also set to reprise his role as Detective Brett Mahoney. On that information alone you know season 2 is going to be good.

Jessica Jones and Daredevil were a part of The Defenders

Perhaps the biggest selling-point of Daredevil: Born Again season 2 is Krysten Ritter's return as Jessica Jones. Since the moment that this was announced, Marvel fans all over the world have been celebrating simply due to the fact that it brings one of the best characters on Marvel Television back to our screens. And considering that it has been seven years since we last saw Jessica (in the third and final season of her own series), excitement for her comeback is high.

If you need a refresher as to how she actually knows Matt Murdock, say no more! The two - who had already become titans of Netflix's Marvel Universe by leading their own shows - appeared alongside each other in The Defenders. The eight-episode miniseries saw the stars of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage unite to battle The Hand. When they defeated the organization once and for all, it was assumed that Daredevil had perished. Although he returned for the third season of his own show, he never crossed paths with his Defenders teammates again before the end of the franchise.

Matt and Jessica had an unusual bond, constantly dragging each other while also being there unequivocally for each other. Simply put: They had each other's backs. And now, the Defenders drought ends as they get to reunite all over again, teaming up to take down the Kingpin - perhaps once and for all.

Foggy Nelson was killed because of Vanessa Fisk

Throughout much of Daredevil: Born Again season 1, viewers were convinced that Wilson Fisk was responsible for Foggy Nelson's shocking death. We knew that Bullseye was the one who pulled the trigger, but it seemed as if the Kingpin had come to collect on the threat he made to Matt Murdock in the season 3 finale of the original Daredevil series. But oh, how wrong we were,

It turned out that it was actually Fisk's wife, Vanessa, who had Foggy killed, as he had gotten too close to her illegal operations at Red Hook Freeport. This was a major unexpected twist because, in a rather unfortunate case of tragic irony, Foggy's death had nothing to do with the years-old Daredevil / Kingpin rivalry. And yet, even when Fisk told Matt that he had kept his word and that no harm came to Foggy at his hand, we didn't believe him. Vanessa being the culprit over an unrelated matter complicated things immensely.

That said, although Fisk did keep his word not to harm Karen or Foggy, he is willing to do anything to protect Vanessa. So, now that he knows about her actions, he has already taken measures to neutralize the threats, attempting to have Matt Murdock killed when he was hospitalized (after saving Fisk from Bullseye's gunfire). The fact that his men were unsuccessful will undoubtedly create some problems for him in season 2, but it's only one of the major problems awaiting the Fisks in these new episodes.

Bullseye is on the loose (and out for revenge)

Another Daredevil character who made a statement when he returned in the Born Again revival was Bullseye. All these years later, Benjamin Poindexter is still sick, twisted, and unhinged; but he's still also extremely effective at his craft of killing people. He wasted little time in proving that when he killed Foggy in the opening moments of the Disney Plus series' premiere episode. Although it looked like Daredevil might have killed him in retaliation for that attack, he survived... barely.

He nearly died again at the hands of the Fisks in prison, who feared he might talk. But he managed to break free and target the Kingpin at a public mayoral event that the crook was holding. Although Matt made the save, Bullseye escaped into the wind. We know that Wilson Bethel will return in season 2, so you can bet that Bullseye will once again be out for revenge.

Considering he killed Foggy and shot Daredevil, something tells us that there won't be any love lost between Dex and Matt in the second season. However, considering that they now share a common enemy, there is a running theory that Bullseye will end up joining Matt's army, aiding the heroes in taking the Kingpin down once and for all. Now that would be extraordinary.

Martial Law is in effect

The Kingpin's hold over New York City worsened in the season 1 finale at a time when it looked like it might weaken. Fisk's corrupt Anti-Vigilante Task Force watched him kill their Police Commissioner before their eyes and, as unpleasant as it was, they didn't turn against him. Now they know the full extent of how corrupt, vile, and villainous he is and they have continued to align with him, pushing his anti-hero propaganda. And, with that, the Kingpin was able to call Martial Law into effect, plunging New York into darkness.

As mayor, the convicted felon has all the power, control, and influence that he could ask for, and he will have no problem wielding that for his own corrupt means. That includes putting his corrupt cops on the street and causing unrest in a city that deserves better than that. And with that, Daredevil and his army of heroes will take a stand on those very streets.

The scene is set for Daredevil: Born Again season 2 and the stakes couldn't be any higher. The new episodes will be set six months after the season 1 finale, so we're going to see how the Kingpin's destructive self-serving calls have impacted the city. And, of course, The Devil of Hell's Kitchen will take the fight to the man who has been a thorn in his side for a decade, looking to end the feud once and for all by finally putting one of the MCU's most corrupt antagonists behind bars (for good, this time!).

Daredevil: Born Again season 2 arrives on Disney Plus on March 24, 2026.
