It is no secret that Daredevil: Born Again season 2 is better than its predecessor in nearly every single aspect. Not only did it present a more cohesive journey, but the set pieces were bigger, there were more iconic Marvel Cinematic Universe characters involved, and there were more heartbreaking deaths. There are only two ways in which the first season reigned supreme over its follow-up: the number of episodes it had, and, unfortunately, the viewership.
Daredevil: Born Again season 2 suffered a 54% viewership drop compared to the first season, and there are plenty of reasons for this. For starters, the Man Without Fear's latest adventure came during a time when The Boys season 5 and Invincible season 4 were airing, which means there was plenty of superhero competition. Furthermore, the mixed quality of season 1 could've discouraged fans from returning for a second go. It's also worth noting that , when you factor in the original Netflix series, Born Again is technically a fifth season of a decade-old show. Besides, it is no secret that the Marvel TV series have been mostly disconnected from the larger MCU, so what's the point in watching them?
While Disney Plus hasn't released any official viewership numbers for Daredevil: Born Again season 2, a new update reveals how underwhelming the reception really was.
Not a single episode of Daredevil: Born Again season 2 made its way to Nielsen's top 10
Nielsen's top 10 is a measurement chart that breaks down the most-watched shows for a specific period by tracking viewership numbers across multiple streaming platforms. The MCU is no stranger to showing up in it, as projects like Echo, WandaVision, Loki, and Moon Knight have all made their way to Nielsen's top 10, among others. Even the critically-panned Secret Invasion had a spot on the list when it was originally released. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about the latest Marvel TV show.
Nielsen's top 10 for the week of May 4 didn't include Daredevil: Born Again season 2, despite its finale releasing on May 5. Instead, series like La Brea and The Boys were the ones to steal the spotlight by a good margin. In total, every single episode across Born Again seasons 1 and 2 has failed to reach Nielsen's top 10. Even the original Netflix Daredevil series cracked Nielsen's top 10 a few years ago.

Unfortunately, it's hard not to question the future of Daredevil: Born Again. Granted, we know for a fact that the show will be returning for a third season next year which has the potential to be the biggest one yet, as it is confirmed to feature the returns of Luke Cage and Iron Fist. However, if viewership keeps dropping, chances are that Marvel won't renew Born Again for a fourth season despite its original plan of having indefinite yearly releases.
Of course, it's highly unlikely that Marvel will abandon Daredevil as a character altogether, but chances are that we'll see him in other projects moving forward. Maybe the superhero giant will instead opt for a revival of The Defenders, given that a crossover series is bound to get more attention than a solo adventure. Furthermore, this would be the perfect opportunity to bring even more characters into the fold, such as Colleen Wing or Elektra.
Now that it has been confirmed that Marvel will host its iconic Hall H panel during this year's San Diego Comic-Con, it isn't far-fetched to assume that we'll learn more about the future of the street-level heroes there. However, it unfortunately wouldn't be surprising if Born Again weren't renewed and instead culminated with a third season next year. On the bright side, we'd still have at least one more devilish adventure to go.
Daredevil: Born Again season 3 will be released in 2027.
