To say that Daredevil: Born Again was a triumph for Marvel Studios would be an understatement. The show finally felt like the successor / revival of the original Netflix series that fans had been promised years ago, making up for the shortcomings of the first season while setting itself apart as one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's finest TV seasons thus far.
This season was truly full of surprises. From Krysten Ritter's highly-anticipated return as Jessica Jones to those genuinely unforeseen deaths that had us all in shock, Matt Murdock's second sophomore season was one for the ages. And now, it looks like its upcoming third season is going to up the ante even further.
The Defenders will officially reunite in Daredevil: Born Again season 3
It's finally happening: The Defenders are returning to the screen. Yes, that was becoming clearer and clearer over the past two years as Marvel Studios officially welcomed back in more characters from the Marvel Netflix era of television, with Daredevil: Born Again season 2 really being the moment that it all came together. Now, we're going one step further in the third season to bring it all full circle.
New set photos have revealed Mike Colter and Finn Jones filming on location in New York City for Daredevil: Born Again season 3. The pair, who played Luke Cage and Danny Rand (a.k.a. Iron Fist) in the Marvel Netflix franchise, were seen walking together alongside Luke Cage's daughter Danielle, who made her debut in the second season of the Disney Plus show.

Jones' return completes the quartet of superheroes, pretty much confirming that we will see the Defenders reunite in the third season of the show. While Ritter's Jessica Jones and Colter's Luke Cage both appeared in the second season, he was the last remaining one yet to appear. And as the season 2 finale of Iron Fist made the future of the Iron Fist himself seem pretty uncertain, it was unclear as to whether he would resurface. Needless to say, we're so glad that he has.
While Ritter's return was heavily publicized in the second season, Colter made a surprise cameo in the season 2 finale. The character, who had been working for the unhinged Mr. Charles, left that line of work behind to reunite with Jessica and their daughter Danielle. But it was clear from that finale that it wouldn't be the last time that we would see them.
Not only has Jessica restarted Alias Investigations, she helped Daredevil take down the Kingpin. But that came with a cost too. With Matt Murdock having outed himself as the Devil of Hell's Kitchen, it was only a matter of time before the law that he loved so much caught up with him. Now imprisoned with the criminals he helped put behind bars, the streets of New York City needs new street-level heroes - or, well, maybe legendary ones - to keep it safe. And that's where the Defenders come in.

While Karen Page works on getting Matt released from prison, The Defenders will seemingly be taking to the streets to protect the citizens of New York from new threats. That may well include Heather Glenn, who is set to become the next Muse. We also know that Wilson Fisk will return from exile at some point in time. And Wilson Bethel's Bullseye will be getting a thrilling new look.
Iron Fist and Luke Cage's additions to Daredevil: Born Again make them the newest in the ever-growing line-up of Marvel Netflix characters to return in the sequel series. Aside from the main cast of the original Daredevil series, other major additions over the past two years have included Jon Bernthal's Punisher (who now returns in Spider-Man: Brand New Day), Royce Johnson's Brett Mahoney, and Geoffrey Cantor's Mitchell Ellison. According to reports, we will see a lot more in the coming years.
Daredevil: Born Again season 3 arrives on Disney Plus in March 2027.
