There was a time when it seemed like the story of the Marvel Netflix characters had come to a definite end. After the cancellation of highly acclaimed shows like Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, The Punisher, and Iron Fist, fans feared that these street-level heroes would never be seen on the small screen again. Fortunately, that has since changed thanks to projects like Spider-Man: No Way Home, Hawkeye, and, of course, Daredevil: Born Again.
The Devil of Hell's Kitchen is back, and he will now find himself in his own personal version of hell after the second season of his standalone show. Matt Murdock decided to reveal his secret identity to the whole world, and he was later sent to jail for all the crimes he committed as a "vigilante." So, who will protect New York in the absence of the Man Without Fear? Fortunately, it seems that many iconic heroes will be up to the task.
Jessica Jones and Luke Cage made their long-awaited comeback during the events of Daredevil: Born Again season 2, and they are presumed to have a bigger role in season 3. Furthermore, set pictures have revealed that Finn Jones's Iron Fist will also join the upcoming battle for the soul of New York. But in case that wasn't enough, yet another legendary Marvel Netflix character will return to the small screen.
A Daredevil: Born Again season 3 set photos and video confirms the return of Elodie Yung's Elektra
The whole world suspected Elodie Yung would be back as Elektra in Daredevil: Born Again season 3 when she posted pictures of herself training in New York—the very same place where the Disney+ series is being filmed. However, we had no concrete evidence to back up this theory... until now.
A new set video from the set of Daredevil: Born Again season 3 showcases Elodie Yung's Elektra wearing a large black hood while wielding her iconic twin sai. Furthermore, as revealed in set photos from Getty Images, she was also sporting her iconic red costume under the hood. It took nearly a decade, but she's finally back and ready to officially join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The last time audiences saw Elektra was during the events of The Defenders miniseries, where a building collapsed on her and Matt. While the latter survived, the fate of the former still remains a mystery. There's a chance that she perished right there and then, and the Hand will revive her yet again. Perhaps we could even see the beginning of this storyline in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, as the ninja criminal organization is set to have a role in it. However, there's another more likely option.
In the comic book world, Elektra Natchios took over the Daredevil mantle after Matt Murdock was sent to jail for accidentally killing a man. While the circumstances of Matt's arrest are different on the small screen, it wouldn't be far-fetched to assume that Marvel could adapt this storyline in Daredevil: Born Again season 3.
Elektra has been missing for quite some time now, so she would need a very big reason to come back into the light. Matt revealing that he's Daredevil to the whole world would be more than enough for her to suit up once more and help her former lover. But regardless of the context of her return, it's exciting to know that she'll take over the small screen next year.
Elektra's return could be a sign that Marvel intends to bring the whole band together. Jessica Henwick's Colleen Wing, Simone Missick's Misty Knight, and Rosario Dawson's Claire Temple may also join Daredevil: Born Again season 3 (with rumors suggesting that the latter will also appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day}.
Daredevil: Born Again was originally envisioned as a fresh new beginning that would ignore the events of the Netflix series before it. Fortunately, a creative reboot mid-production allowed the show to act as a continuation of the adventures audiences had already witnessed, and thanks to that decision, we will now see Elektra in the MCU. All things considered, it is a good day to be a fan of the Man and the Woman Without Fear.
Daredevil: Born Again season 3 will be released in 2027.
