The new iteration of the DC Universe is just getting started, and it already has a bright future ahead. Superhero fans instantly fell in love with the world's greatest Punk-rocker, Superman, and his latest stand-alone movie. Furthermore, Peacemaker Season 2 improved on its predecessor in almost every aspect (except for the finale, that is). But the cherry on top of the cake? Multiple exciting projects are on the horizon.

Supergirl will fly onto the big screen in 2026, and audiences will take a haunting ride throughout the streets of Gotham City courtesy of Clayface. Many different Green Lanterns will steal the spotlight in the Lanterns TV series, and Brainiac is set to take over the universe in Man of Tomorrow. However, there's one particular project that audiences have been wanting to see for quite some time now, and it looks like it's finally happening.

DC is reportedly working on The Penguin Season 2

Superhero fans have been asking for a second season of The Penguin since the finale was released, and with good reason. The beloved DC project was nominated for an astonishing 24 Emmy Awards, out of which it won nine. Needless to say, audiences were captivated by this grim, helpless, and violent portrayal of Gotham City seen through the eyes of Oswald Cobblepot and Sofia Falcone. Fortunately, it seems we haven't seen the last of them.

According to a report by Bloomberg, DC has many projects in the works, among which are: "Supergirl and Clayface movies next year, sequels to Superman and The Batman in 2027, a second season of The Penguin and a true-crime series based on super-intelligent villain Gorilla Grodd". At long last, fans will get what they want. Interestingly enough, the report comes during a time when it seemed we'd never get to see more of Oz in his own stand-alone show.

Back in April 2025, Chairman and CEO of the Warner Bros. Television Group, Channing Dungey, revealed that there weren't any immediate plans for a second season of The Penguin. There seemed to be a small change of heart in September, when The Batman director Matt Reeves revealed that the series' overwhelmingly positive reception made them reconsider. Still, the months to follow were filled with silence, so fans started to give up any hope. Fortunately, the wait was worth it in the end.

With Netflix recently winning the bidding war for Warner Bros. Discovery, fans question whether the DCU would still have a future ahead of it, let alone Matt Reeves' Batman Universe. However, both James Gunn and Peter Safran received contract extensions through 2027 with DC Studios, meaning their universe should remain unaffected for now, along with the "Elseworld" projects such as The Batman Part II and The Penguin Season 2.

Before Oz Cobblepot returns for a second season of his show, we'll see him during the events of The Batman Part II, which is slated for release on Oct. 1, 2027. If history were to repeat itself, then a new season of The Penguin would release two years after The Dark Knight takes over the big screen, which could mean 2029 would be the year when we'd return to Gotham on the small screen. However, if DC is already working on the anticipated project, then there's a slight chance it could be released in 2028. After that, we would get a follow-up to The Batman Part II, as per the report.

Now that the DCU is firing on all cylinders, chances are we'll start getting more projects without so much intermission between them, and the same goes for the Elseworld stories. The wait for The Batman Part II has been excruciating, to say the least. Fortunately, it seems there will be a lot more of the Caped Crusader and his rogues' gallery afterwards, and we wouldn't want it any other way.

The Batman Part II will be released on Oct. 1, 2027.
