There are plenty of exciting superhero movies on the horizon, but it is no secret that The Batman - Part II is one of the most anticipated. By the time it releases, five years will have passed since its (fantastic) predecessor first hit theaters, so the sequel is long overdue by this point.

Audiences worldwide are now ready to see Robert Pattinson's Batman go toe-to-toe with Sebastian Stan's Two-Face. Furthermore, with the rumored appearance of Gilda Dent and Christopher Dent, Bruce Wayne's plate will be more than full. Despite that, other antagonists could still show up to wreak havoc in Gotham.

The Batman set up a team-up between Paul Dano's The Riddler and Barry Keoghan's Joker. Not only that, but the latter is expected to reprise his role in the sequel. However, Gotham is one big city filled with countless threats, which is why yet another villain from the first entry in the saga will make his long-awaited return (although in a reduced capacity).

Colin Farrell's The Penguin will have a minor role in The Batman 2

During an interview with Deadline, Colin Farrell got to discuss his role as The Penguin in The Batman - Part II, and stated that he won't be in much of the film: "I will go fly to London in four or five weeks. I haven’t got much to do on it, but I’ll go for four or five weeks. I’ll be there for a few weeks. I’m so excited to see it as a fan." Additionally, Colin praised the sequel's script by stating: "It’s extraordinary, Matt is just so brilliant, and he just cares so deeply about the stories he tells."

During an interview with Variety, director Matt Reeves shared that The Penguin HBO Max series will be "the entry point" into The Batman - Part II, adding: "There are details that actually connect right into the way the next movie begins, and the way that Oz enters that world as we hand the baton back to Batman, and Batman is on another case."

It will be interesting to see how Oz Cobb's latest adventure is able to lead directly into The Batman - Part II if the villain himself doesn't have much of a large role in it. What is clear, however, is that the sequel will tell a story about corruption, as teased by the director himself: "It's going to dig into the epic story about deeper corruption, and it goes into places that he couldn’t anticipate in the first one. The seeds of where this goes are all in the first movie. It expands in a way that will show you aspects of the character you never got to see."

When Carmine Falcone was killed in The Batman, his passing created a power vacuum in Gotham City that didn't go unnoticed. Oz and Salvatore Maroni tried to quickly fill this void, and now that the latter is out of the picture, chances are that the former will have the city in the palm of his hand. However, this could allow the Penguin to learn about other key figures pulling Gotham's strings from the shadows, and that's where he might come into play in The Batman - Part II.

For a long time now, Batman fans have been asking to see the Court of Owls take over the big screen, and if The Batman - Part II tells a story of "deeper corruption," then it would be the perfect chance for them to make their appearance. The Penguin could be the one to tell Batman and District Attorney Harvey Dent about the existence of this society comprised of Gotham's most influential figures. Maybe Dent attempts to take the Court down, and that's when they could throw acid on his face.

There are plenty of exciting possibilities for The Batman - Part II, and it's exciting to learn that the movie will feature many iconic villains from the comic book world. Fortunately, production on the highly anticipated film has finally started, so it won't be long before more announcements and updates come our way.

The Batman - Part II will hit theaters on Oct. 1, 2027.
