Everyone who knows Matt Murdock is Daredevil in the MCU

Matt Murdock has been saving lives in the MCU for over a decade now. In that time, he has shared his secret identity with quite a few people.

Daredevil has been a fixture of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for over a decade. We weren't initially sure if his series was canon to the franchise, with loose nods and references to the MCU that would have been in home in any Daredevil series. But when the Netflix show came to an end and the characters resurfaced in MCU projects, the confirmation was made by Marvel Studios. And with Daredevil: Born Again now telling a new chapter in that story - a chapter that is much more closely linked to the MCU lore than its predecessor - we can definitively confirm that The Man Without Fear is an MCU regular.

This also confirms that Matt Murdock has spent the past decade being The Devil of Hell's Kitchen, protecting the innocent and viciously punishing evildoers with his extensive fighting skills. He has done all of this while fighting for the innocent by day too, as a lawyer who has made a name for himself for taking on important, difficult cases and walking away with the right verdict. Whatever it takes, Matt Murdock is willing to do it.

He lives two very different lives, but there are those among his friends and enemies who know about the two paths that he walks. If you need a reminder, here is a list of everyone who knows that Matt is the crime-fighting vigilante, both in Netflix's original Daredevil series and Disney Plus revival Daredevil: Born Again.

Does Wilson Fisk know that Matt is Daredevil?

In a word: Yes. Wilson Fisk discovered that Matt Murdock is really his archenemy sometime between Daredevil seasons 2 and 3. After Matt paid him a visit in prison in the second season (which featured Vincent D'Onofrio's guest return to the villainous role), Fisk ordered his contacts to bring him all of the information he had on the lawyer who brought him down. He then set a trap in the third season in which Matt had to fight his way out of a prison riot, which Fisk watched on CCTV. His suspicions that the blind lawyer was really Daredevil were confirmed when he lured Karen Page into accidentally revealing the truth when she visited him in season 3.

Matt defeated Fisk as Daredevil in the season 3 finale, lifting his mask to officially let his enemy know that his suspicions were correct, telling him to his face that he had beaten him. The two made an uneasy deal there and then, with Fisk promising that he would never reveal his true identity or go after Foggy Nelson and Karen Page as he knew that Daredevil would bring down his wife, Vanessa. This was the last time that the two foes saw each other until Fisk's mayoral bid in Daredevil: Born Again

Yes, Karen knows Matt is Daredevil, too

Karen Page discovered the truth about Matt Murdock in the second season of Daredevil. The office manager of Nelson and Murdock had begun a romantic relationship with him but his late-night activities as the Devil of Hell's Kitchen - and the lies that he told about them - was causing issues in the honeymoon phase of that relationship. Eventually, Matt told her the truth in the season 2 finale, creating a new normal for the pair in both The Defenders and Daredevil season 3.

Like Foggy, Karen struggled to accept this part of Matt's life, fearing for his safety and feeling that he could do a lot of good as a lawyer instead of as Daredevil. When Matt stopped pushing them away, the trio made a go of it with their law firm Nelson, Murdock, and Page and enjoyed six more wonderful years together. Although their romantic relationship seemingly wasn't rekindled, Daredevil: Born Again very much implies that the sparks between Matt and Karen are still there after all this time.

Foggy Nelson unmasked "the man in the mask"

Foggy Nelson was one of the first significant characters to discover that Matt Murdock was Daredevil because he had to help rescue his friend from a near-death experience. Upon entering his friend's apartment to check on him in season 1, Foggy found "the man in the mask" bruised, battered, and bloody - in need to life-saving treatment. He unmasked him, discovering that Matt was really the Devil of Hell's Kitchen all along.

Since then, Foggy was a reliable ally for Matt when it came to his vigilante lifestyle. He couldn't fully support his activities as Daredevil and constantly pushed for him to give up that way of life. But even with his resistance to it, he still provided aid where necessary - saving him from near-death after his showdown with The Punisher and bringing his suit to the police station in The Defenders to help him break out.

Foggy's death in Daredevil: Born Again was the ending of that chapter of Matt's life, but even minutes before his death, Foggy was looking out for him, as he didn't tell him about the severity of the case he was working on out of fear that it might make Matt put on the suit again. It did, and Matt became Daredevil once again to take down his killer.

It's implied that Bullseye knows Matt is really Daredevil

Although there is never any scene that outright confirms if Wilson Bethel's Benjamin Poindexter knows that Matt Murdock is Daredevil, it is heavily implied that he does. The villain known as Bullseye was employed by Wilson Fisk to impersonate the Devil of Hell's Kitchen and frame him for crimes he didn't commit during season 3 - which was the season in which Fisk seemingly discovered the truth about Matt's late-night activities.

He also knew to specifically target Foggy Nelson and Karen Page in both shows and behaved the same when around Matt Murdock attorney at law, and Daredevil, taking pleasure in making both of their lives difficult.

Claire Temple discovered Matt's secret while saving his life

The first person in the whole Marvel Netflix franchise to actually discover that Matt Murdock is Daredevil, Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson) found out that the blind lawyer was the hero of the streets in the second episode of the original Daredevil series. Helping him recover from a few life-threatening wounds when he was in a very bad way, Claire became a regular ally for Matt, patching him up after the majority of altercations that he had in the first season.

The Night Nurse was one of the biggest recurring characters throughout the Marvel Netflix franchise, appearing in Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders. She initially began a romantic relationship with Matt, but couldn't stick around and watch him hurt himself. Still, though, she was there for him whenever he needed her.

Stick and Elektra knew Daredevil's identity all along

Two people who knew Matthew Murdock long before he ever suited up as Daredevil on the series, they both made their presence felt on Netflix's Daredevil throughout its three-season run. Stick figured it out prior to his first appearance in season 1, confronting him over his decision not to kill his enemies. But he was secretly proud of the warrior that he had become.

Elektra, Matt's former love and partner in crime, made her debut on the show in the second season, telling him that she needed his help. He initially thought that help was in his profession as a lawyer, but when she presented him with the Daredevil suit, he realized that she had figured out his secret before they even reunited.

Both characters seemingly died during The Defenders but given the ancient battles and mythology that they were both involved in, it wouldn't be at all surprising if Stick and Elektra resurfaced at some point or another.

Frank Castle / The Punisher saw him in action

The Punisher and Daredevil have a very love / hate relationship. The two first crossed paths early on in Daredevil's second season and even though they are both vigilantes, they were very quickly on opposite sides. But there was something of a silent respect between the two that formed an odd alliance (maybe even friendship at some points in time) as they fought together to take down The Blacksmith and even The Hand. Matt also represented Frank as one of his lawyers in his trial.

It was never officially revealed when and where Frank discovered that Matt Murdock was Daredevil but it was likely in the season 2 finale when Matt, unmasked, battled The Hand on the rooftops of Hell's Kitchen. That, and their fondness of Karen Page, has made them uneasy friends over the years.

Father Paul Lantom and Sister Maggie Grace were there for him

Father Paul Lantom was a recurring presence in the three seasons that Daredevil ran for, offering guidance, support and wisdom to Matt Murdock in his many hours of need. He helped raise Matthew in his younger years and always listened to his confession, so it didn't take long for him to figure out that he was the hero of Hell's Kitchen. He continued to offer him advice, discussing religion, God, and the right thing to do with him until his death when he sacrificed himself to save Karen Page from Bullseye. It's safe to say that Matt wouldn't have become the great hero that he is without Father Lantom's help.

Another figure who was there for Matthew, albeit from a bit more of a distance, was Sister Maggie Grace. Having been there for him when he he was a child in Saint Agnes' Orphanage, she came back into his life after the events of The Defenders, nursing him back to health. It's unclear if she always knew or if she just found out when she saw him in his suit, but she guarded that secret and helped him evade the corrupt law enforcement officials on multiple occasions. It was subsequently revealed that she was really Matt's mother and the two slowly began to repair their relationship.

Matt trusted Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, Luke Cage, and Colleen Wing with his secret in The Defenders

Daredevil may be a bit of a lone wolf but one of his greatest battles saw him reluctantly join forces with Jessica Jones, Danny Rand (a.k.a. Iron Fist), and Luke Cage. Matt had sworn off being Daredevil at the time (and didn't have time to get to his suit when the fighting began), and thus relied on Jessica's scarf to conceal his identity. But that didn't stop Jessica herself, the private investigator that she is, from figuring out that he really was The Devil of Hell's Kitchen.

Matt eventually opened up to Luke Cage and Danny Rand too, as the foursome then teamed up with Stick and Colleen Wing to take on - and ultimately defeat - The Hand. Even though they weren't particularly friends, they made one heck of a team, relying on each other to overcome the great evil they were facing. And they know that they are all out there now if any one of them ever needs backup in the future.

Vanessa Fisk saw Matt make a deal with the Kingpin

Vanessa Marianna may have fallen in love with Wilson Fisk, but she wasn't engaged in any criminal activity throughout her early appearances in Daredevil. That all changed in the third season when she got involved in his underworld empire, ordering for Agent Nadeem to be killed. She also happened to be present when Daredevil and Fisk had their final showdown in the show's final episode.

The Kingpin made a deal for Vanessa's freedom in front of her, promising to never reveal that Matt was Daredevil or come after Foggy Nelson and Karen Page, so she's well aware of who he is. Although she has since risen up in the criminal empire in the time that her husband has been away, she has never come after Daredevil, in spite of knowing his secret.

Jennifer Walters / She-Hulk unmasked Daredevil

Now we're moving into the era where Matt Murdock was officially welcomed into the MCU, and with that came a significant appearance in Disney Plus series She-Hulk: Attorney At Law. The Man Without Fear crossed paths with Jennifer Walters both in the courtroom and the rooftops. Although he performed well in court, he was overpowered by her She-Hulk persona when he attempted to battle the Jade Giantess, allowing her to easily unmask him.

But this was the beginning of an unlikely alliance as the pair took down some bad guys together and even got intimate with each other, with it looking like Matt and Jen were actually starting a relationship. There haven't been any updates on the pair's relationship status since, but as Matt has a new love interest in Daredevil: Born Again, we're guessing they decided long-term wouldn't work.

Cherry found out after Foggy's death

Cherry discovered Matt's secret in one of his most vulnerable moments, seeing him without his mask on as he cried over the loss of his best friend Foggy Nelson. Although he was a detective, Cherry kept that secret and continued his friendship with Matt, working for him as a private investigator at his new law firm Murdock/McDuffie.

He's now one of Matt's most trusted allies and friends, but he also would prefer if he doesn't put the mask back on - a running theme with Matt's closest friends who know his secret.
