Hollywood truly has a major problem with leaks these days. The last few weeks have brought about several major leaks connected to some of the biggest releases of the year on both the big and small screens.

Marvel has been at the heart of most of the recent leaks, with stills, footage, and plot information releasing online for both Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday. These leaks have made it abundantly clear that there are serious issues in the industry with footage falling into the wrong hands as well as information about pivotal moments in the films.

Well, now HBO is getting a taste of this in the form of House of the Dragon leaks. With season 3 kicking off on June 21, many fan accounts have been on the lookout for spoilers from the season ahead, and we’ve seen a handful of rumors hitting social media already. This includes a new rumor connected to the second episode of the season which, if true, contains a major spoiler about a surprise return and an even more surprising character death.

Warning: We’re about to address potential House of the Dragon spoilers. While these leaks are unconfirmed, know that we’re about to dive into major spoiler territory. In other words, this is your last chance to turn back before we spill the identity of the characters at the heart of these rumors.

House of the Dragon season 3 episode 2 will feature the return and death of Otto Hightower

In the final moments of House of the Dragon season 2, fans will recall we saw a brief glimpse of Otto Hightower being locked up in a cell. The specifics of how he came to be locked away and who had captured him were woven into the season-ending montage to serve as part of the season’s closing cliffhangers.

That moment was the first we had seen Otto since the second episode of season 2 in which he was fired from his position as Hand to the King by his grandson Aegon. After losing his position, Otto made the decision to leave King’s Landing and was said to be heading to Oldtown. This made sense, as Oldtown is where the rest of his family called home, and we thought that would perhaps be the last we’d see of him for the season. But then the finale brought him back for the blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment. That cliffhanger led fans to question how he came to be held captive and if he ever made it to Oldtown.

We’ll have to wait to see if we get direct answers to these questions when House of the Dragon season 3 begins, but one thing that does seem certain is that Otto will return… and his return will bring about his death.

According to new leaks shared by a House of the Dragon fan page, Rhys Ifans will reprise his role as Otto Hightower in season 3, episode 2, and that episode will serve as his final episode of the series. The unconfirmed report notes that Rhaenyra will execute Otto in the second episode of the season.

Her weapon of choice will reportedly be Visenya’s sword, Dark Sister, and this will not be a clean kill. As the leaked plot details reveal, Rhaenyra does not kill Otto with her first blow and “is only able to deliver the fatal blow on her second try.” But wait, there’s more! Not only will Rhaenyra kill Otto, but it seems Alicent will enter the throne room moments after to find her father dead and Rhaenyra claiming her spot on the Iron Throne.

Now, these are leaks, and it’s unclear if they’ll prove to be true or not; however, the description of these events does line up with what goes down in Fire & Blood. In the book, Otto is beheaded by Rhaenyra after she takes King’s Landing and reclaims the Iron Throne, so it seems that episode 2 will pull direct inspiration from the book by adapting the scene for the show.

If this leak proves to be true, we just hope that the creative team gives some context for how Otto found himself behind bars and gives the character some memorable final words.
