It's officially 2026, which means we can look forward to all of the new beginnings and chapters that are coming our way from the new year. For fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, that means new possibilities from the upcoming titles. And believe us when we say that 2026 has a stacked line-up, with the likes of Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday, as well as the long-awaited second seasons of the likes of Daredevil: Born Again and X-Men '97 to look forward to.

There is so much MCU goodness on the horizon and, with an inevitable amount of returns undoubtedly going along with it (some of which Marvel has surprisingly already confirmed), fans can prepare for some surprises. That includes the long-awaited return of an MCU legend who hasn't been seen in the franchise for five years.

Vision finally returns to the MCU this year in VisionQuest

Vision is back - or, well, at least he will be when VisionQuest arrives on Disney Plus this year. The long-awaited Marvel Television series has been in development for some time but, after plenty of rumors, it will finally get its premiere on the streaming platform at some point this year. And that means the legendary MCU staple will finally return to screens after a half-decade away.

Portrayed by Paul Bettany, Vision has been a part of the Marvel Studios franchise since 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron, but Bettany has actually been there for much longer. You see, he voiced JARVIS prior to that - Tony Stark's AI, who would eventually become the blueprint for the heroic android Vision - in a role that began in 2008's Iron Man.

As Vision, he would return in 2016's Captain America: Civil War and 2018's Avengers: Infinity War, where he met his demise at the hands of Thanos. However, his love, Wanda Maximoff, a.k.a. the Scarlet Witch, recreated an alternate version of him in 2021 Disney Plus series WandaVision. SWORD managed to resurrect the original Vision using Wanda's magic, ultimately sending the two into battle against each other. But a conversation resulted in the WandaVision Vision restoring his new counterpart's memories, allowing him to make his own choices.

We have not seen this new White Vision since, but Bettany's return in the upcoming VisionQuest will finally make that long-awaited comeback happen.

The conclusion of the WandaVision Trilogy

VisionQuest is expected to act as a sequel to WandaVision, continuing on the story set forth by that series. As we mentioned above, the White Vision's memories were restored by his Westview counterpart, so he has gone off the radar to make his own choices. It's now been five years since we last saw him, so those choices are undoubtedly going to take - or have taken - him in some very interesting directions.

The show will also act as a closer to that story, carrying on from both WandaVision and its first spinoff Agatha All Along. The latter brought Kathryn Hahn back as the bewitching Agatha Harkness, who crossed paths with Billy Maximoff, .a.k.a. Wiccan, (Joe Locke) on her attempt to reach the Witches' Road. Together, the pair were able to transport the soul of Billy's brother, Tommy, into a new body (just as he had done for himself prior to meeting Agatha). That will come into play in VisionQuest.

Ruaridh Mollica will star in the Paul Bettany-led series as Tucker, but we know that he is really Tommy. So, while Billy had his mother's archenemy for a mentor, Tommy may find one in his own father. How will Vision react to the fact that the sons Wanda created in WandaVision are still alive? And does he actually have the emotions that the original Vision had to show compassion towards such a revelation?

Reports and rumors have claimed that the show could ultimately reunite the Maximoff family, bringing Tommy, Vision, Billy and perhaps even Wanda (and maybe Agatha, too!) back together for the first time since WandaVision. Wouldn't that be a treat?!

Needless to say, fans are excited to see Vision return to screens this year. To say it's been "too long" would be an understatement!
