The countdown to X-Men ‘97 season 2 is officially underway, and Marvel is kicking the promotional campaign for the new season into overdrive!
Following the release of the official season 2 trailer, Marvel Studios has been building to the highly anticipated second season of its Emmy-winning animated series with the release of new promotional materials, including first-look images, new posters, and brief teases for the new season – the latest of which confirmed the incredible roster of characters slated to appear in X-Men ‘97 season 2.
As it gears up for season 2, Marvel Studios released a new video designed to introduce audiences to the mutants of X-Men '97 season 2. This list included several fan-favorite characters from season 1, as well as a few new characters set to enter the mix and play a key role in the upcoming second season:
- Professor X
- Jean Grey
- Cyclops
- Forge
- Beast
- Nightcrawler
- Morph
- Bishop
- Rogue
- Wolverine
- Storm
- Jubilee
- Sunspot
- Archangel
- Psylocke
- Cable
- Siryn
- Strong Guy
- Havok
- Multiple Man
- Wolfsbane
- Emma Frost
- Polaris
- Magneto
- Apocalypse
Of course, in addition to these 25 characters, we fully expect that there will be more than a few cameos from other X-Men characters throughout the season. There are definitely a few iconic characters not on this list, including one whose fate remains up in the air following the events of season 1.
Sadly, Gambit did not make the cut, but this is not shocking, as Marvel Animation would understandably like to keep his fate a surprise to fans. While it would have been nice to get confirmation that Gambit will return, including him in the video would be a big spoiler and potentially undercut the surprise of his return – even if it is something every fan is expecting at this point.
There are some characters, though, whose absence is a bit disappointing as it hints we might not see much of them in season 2 or possibly at all. This includes characters like Iceman, Colossus, Mystique, and Juggernaut, to name a just few.
Hopefully, some of these characters will make an appearance across the second season. Regardless, the first wave of confirmed mutants appearing in X-Men '97 season 2 is definitely stacked and should get fans even more excited for season 2!
Season 2 will continue the adventures of the first season with the X-Men team trying to find their way back to one another after being displaced through time. After being thrown into various eras, our heroes have to navigate the eras and work with unlikely allies to return home. Meanwhile, back in the '90s, with the X-Men nowhere to be found, mutant intolerance is on the rise as new threats begin to emerge from the shadows.
Fans are definitely in for an amazing nine episodes, ones that will surely leave us on the edge of our seats every week and wanting more by the time the season comes to a close.
Don't miss the season 2 premiere of X-Men '97 on July 1.
