Expectation is always at an all-time high whenever a new Marvel Cinematic Universe crossover is on the horizon. The promise of watching our favorite heroes assemble on the big screen is nothing short of exciting, as anyone could make an appearance when we least expect it. Avengers: Doomsday is no exception, as it will finally make something happen that no superhero movie has ever done before: Bring together Earth's Mightiest Heroes and the X-Men.
The official Avengers: Doomsday cast reveal gave us a glimpse behind the curtain and unveiled 27 characters that will be a part of the upcoming crossover. But even if that may seem like an unbelievable amount, more surprises are awaiting us. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed that even more heroes will be a part of the adventure. Fortunately, the first of (hopefully) many surprises just made its way online.
Deadpool will appear in Avengers: Doomsday (but maybe not as an Avenger)
At long last, we'll get to know why Thor was crying.
As revealed by The Hollywood Reporter, Wade Wilson will appear in Avengers: Doomsday, marking his second-ever MCU appearance after the events of Deadpool & Wolverine. This confirmation comes after Ryan Reynolds—the actor behind the Merc With A Mouth—teased his involvement in the highly anticipated project by posting a cryptic image on social media where the Avengers logo was vandalized with red paint.
Interestingly enough, the report notes that audiences shouldn't expect the anti-hero "to actually be joining the Avengers team". This doesn't come as a surprise, knowing how Deadpool likes to operate. After all, he'll likely do his own thing and perhaps even double-cross some of our favorite heroes.

It isn't a secret that the X-Men, and the Mutant kind in general, will play a big part in Avengers: Doomsday. The movie's official casting already revealed that variants of the Fox era of the characters will be making a comeback. As such, fans heavily suspected that both Deadpool and Wolverine would also have a role to play, especially given that their characters had their official MCU debut last year. It seemed like it was just a matter of time before it was confirmed that either of them would return, and, fortunately, that day is finally here.
The only question remaining is: How will Deadpool come into the mix? After all, he currently lives in a universe different from the MCU, or the one where the X-Men live (which is the one seen at the post-credits scene of The Marvels). Well, it's worth remembering that Wade Wilson already visited the "Sacred Timeline" and attempted to join the Avengers, but Happy Hogan ultimately rejected him. So, perhaps this "short" trip was more than enough to provoke an incursion.
Thanks to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, we know that an incursion can be created whenever a being spends too much time in a reality different from its own. The borders between the two worlds start to fade, and suddenly, they are both at risk of colliding with each other. With that in mind, Deadpool's search for a new purpose might've spelled doom for his home world.
Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars are the last chance we'll ever have of watching some of the original heroes from both the MCU and the Fox universe come together for one last ride. As such, it's nice to know that Deadpool will also be a part of the adventure and inject a bit of chaos into the mix.
Avengers: Doomsday will be released on Dec. 18, 2026.
