Saladin Ahmed started his run of Daredevil with a bold move. He put Matt Murdock in a position where his faith was tested by forcing him to battle the Seven Deadly Sins. It was odd seeing Matt fight with the power of his Catholic faith, but it worked because it was something new, and the creative team made it interesting.
One of the major plots was Daredevil battling Wilson Fisk, who was possessed by the sin, Greed. This ends with the former Kingpin and Mayor of New York dropping to his knees and asking Matt for forgiveness (Daredevil No. 12). A confused and disturbed Matt Murdock left his enemy pleading for absolution. After that, Fisk disappeared until Daredevil No. 25. What happened here is weirder than anything that happened in this series. Wilson said he wanted to be God.
Wilson told the Dardedevils (Matt and Elektra) that, after Greed was exorcised, he felt the hand of God. That encounter led him to travel the world to learn from the best holy warriors to turn his body into a proper vessel. When he returned, he started killing people, and he called it righteous. That's only the beginning of the extreme things Fisk says and does.

During the fight with Matt and Elektra, Fisk said, “I spent every free moment in prayer, trying to solve the problem of my own existence. I came to realize that I’d prostrated myself before God out of fear. Fear of greater strength.” A normal person would be humbled by this thought and feeling. But we aren't discussing a normal person. Fisk took this and decided he wanted to become god.
Let’s be honest. No one is shocked by this. If Wilson Fisk were in the DC Comics universe, an Orange Power Ring would have left Larfleeze. No one has avarice like him. Not even Victor Von Doom, and he actively tries to take over the universe. And while Doom has been a god before (2015's Secret Wars), it’s not shocking because he has the power to make it happen. But Wilson Fisk is just a man. A giant, brilliant one, but a mortal, nonetheless. So his believing he can become God is ridiculous, but not surprising.
As we mentioned earlier, this was the final issue in Saladin Ahmed’s run as the writer of Daredevil. Hopefully, this won’t be a moment when a character does something bold only for nothing to come of it. Fisk is stronger, faster, and can do flips (the latter shocked me, too). That makes him a tougher opponent than ever. And, maybe he finds a way to become God. Weirder things have happened in Marvel Comics. Stay tuned to Bam Smack Pow to see how this plays out.
