It goes without saying that Avengers: Secret Wars is one of the most anticipated movies of the decade right now. The only reason that it's not the most anticipated movie on the horizon right now is that Avengers: Doomsday is coming out first (with a release set for December next year. But make no mistake about it, Secret Wars is a big one and you can bet that fans are ready to experience the thrilling showdowns that will make their presence felt on the silver screen in the 2027 epic.

Truthfully, the Marvel Cinematic Universe spectacle has all the potential in the world to be even bigger than Doomsday, as it's expected to feature a multiversal battle that will consist of Marvel stars from all across the MCU's multiverse (including those who appeared in Marvel movies long before there was an MCU). The movie to bring about an end to the studio's Multiverse Saga is no doubt going to challenge the film that brought about an end to the Infinity Saga (2019's Avengers: Endgame) and it will likely pull out all the stops to do it.

Interestingly, one of the many, many names rumored for it just dropped something of an interesting tease about a potential appearance in the movie, and fans are already lapping it up.

Andrew Garfield addresses those Avengers: Secret Wars return rumors

In a recent interview with MTV's Josh Horowitz, Andrew Garfield addressed the long-standing rumors that he will appear in Avengers: Secret Wars with a very different response to how he used to deal with Marvel rumors. The Spider-Man star was jokingly teased by Horowitz about answering difficult Marvel questions with a "I'll see you in Secret Wars", to which he responded with a laugh: "Okay."

The exchange didn't end there though, as Garfield continued to laugh and Horowitz told him that the body language experts will be out to analyze his response. Garfield responded:

"You'll find out. Whatever response I’m having, is it exasperation? Is it? I don’t know. You’ll find out."

Of course, Garfield knows all about the stress of having to deny MCU rumors. The star was heavily rumored to appear in 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home alongside fellow Spider-Man legend Tobey Maguire, and he vehemently denied those rumors in every single interview that he did - convincing so many people that he was, in fact, not in that movie. It turns out, however, that he was.

With Avengers: Secret Wars expected to bring as many of the universes in the Marvel Multiverse together, there are hopes that characters such as Garfield's Spidey, Maguire's Spidey, Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool, and other multiversal Marvel stars from this saga will make at least one more appearance. Garfield's new tactic for responding to rumors certainly hasn't ruled that idea out.

As for who he'd like to share the screen with if he were to hypothetically return in another MCU movie? He offers up High Jackman's Wolverine and Tom Hardy's Venom as potential choices, sounding very open to the possibility of a return in any capacity as he's "up for a good time".

Garfield is the second actor to play Peter Parker and his heroic alter-ego in a theatrical movie, starring in Marc Webb's 2012 movie The Amazing Spider-Man and its 2014 sequel The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Although the films received a mixed response from audiences, Garfield's performance was praised, with many considering him the best actor to play the role. He finally got the chance to return for a third film in No Way Home, sharing the screen with his Spidey peers Tobey Maguire and Tom Holland.

Avengers: Doomsday arrives in theaters on December 18, 2026, while Avengers: Secret Wars arrives on December 17, 2027.
