The Marvel Cinematic Universe isn't afraid to surprise people. The franchise known for breaking box office records left, right, and center has been a staple of the Hollywood landscape for almost two decades now, and some of its biggest surprises may be yet to come. Yeah, that feels impossible after Avengers: Endgame changed the MCU beyond recognition in 2019, but you never bet against the MCU.

The Marvel Studios movie series is currently in the midst of its Multiverse Saga, which is on course to pulling off a groundbreaking conclusion in the larger-than-life double act of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Endgame. It will look to do that with a star-studded cast led by Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom which is also set to feature some surprises. There are already some surprise returns in there, but there are likely more on the horizon that probably won't be announced in advance.

Speaking of returns in Multiverse Saga titles, another major project coming up in the MCU's near-future could reportedly feature the comeback of multiple characters... including the one we've all been waiting for.

Marvel reportedly testing Wanda Maximoff and Agatha Harkness comebacks for Vision Quest

According to veteran industry insider Daniel Richtman, Marvel Studios is currently testing multiple different endings for Vision Quest. One of those would reportedly involve Elizabeth Olsen's return as Wanda Maximoff, a.k.a. the Scarlet Witch, presumably bringing the character back from the dead after her apparent demise in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The other would involve Wanda's son Billy Maximoff, a.k.a. Wiccan, and Ghost Agatha Harkness presumably picking up from the cliffhanger in Agatha All Along, which saw the duo head out to find Billy's brother Tommy.

Needless to say, both of those endings would be a big deal - and both would be so well-received by fans that the thought of the studio having to choose just one of them is somewhat disappointing. Whichever one they would theoretically opt for, audiences would still lose out on seeing the other. And the truth is that both of those would carry an insane amount of potential for furthering the overall storyline arc.

Vision Quest is the third Disney Plus series in the Multiverse Saga's WandaVision Trilogy. It all started with the very first series Marvel Studios ever produced, WandaVision. The critically-acclaimed phenomenon eventually spawned spinoff sequel Agatha All Along, which brought back Kathryn Hahn's Agatha Harkness and had her once again cross paths with Wanda and Vision's son Billy. The duo eventually brought Billy's brother Tommy back to life, placing his soul in a body somewhere in the world. Vision Quest will presumably have us be reintroduced to Tommy (series star Ruaridh Mollica is rumored to play the character).

Between WandaVision and Agatha, however, Wanda starred in Doctor Strange 2 as the antagonist, with the grief of losing her family in the Disney Plus series sending her into a Darkhold-driven rage. She attempted to redeem herself for her actions in the end by bringing down Mount Wundagore on herself, destroying all copies of the Darkhold in the process and Marvel has been somewhat adamant that her sacrifice did indeed lead to the Scarlet Witch's death. But fans aren't convinced.

Rumor has it that the character will return in either Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars to help the Avengers battle Doctor Doom to save the Multiverse. She's also expected to reunite with her children at some point, so it does feel like a comeback is inevitable - especially since the two Avengers movies are on the horizon. Although Elizabeth Olsen has denied any involvement in the two films, there have been various reports claiming that Wanda will have a major role going forward, so again: a comeback feels inevitable at this point.

Olsen was also previously rumored to make a cameo appearance in Vision Quest, so this rumored appearance could just be that. But it could also mark the beginning of Marvel Studios' long-term plan to bring the character back from the dead, setting her on a course for her grand return in the battle for the Multiverse.

It's exciting to hear that the Vision Quest team are testing multiple endings for the show and, honestly, seeing any one of them would make for an exciting conclusion to the show and an even more thrilling hook for what comes next in the MCU's story of the Maximoff family.
