Ever since the launch of the Multiverse Saga, we have all been sure that the X-Men are on their way to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That saga continued to produce expansive, larger-than-life, and darn-near impossible stories featuring heroes and villains from across the Marvel Multiverse, but there was still no sign of the mighty mutants - or, well, at least the MCU-specific ones.
That all changed with the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, as announcement after announcement began flowing out about the identities of the specific mutants who would feature in Marvel Studios' upcoming X-Men movie. And now, all involved - including Marvel Studios' own president and CEO Kevin Feige - have confirmed when and where the mutants will surface (and just who will be playing them).
Marvel confirms star-studded X-Men cast ahead of reboot movie
It's official: The X-Men are coming to the MCU. Kevin Feige took to the stage at D23 during the Entertainment Showcase to officially announce the cast of the MCU's upcoming X-Men reboot, confirming some reports, addressing some long-standing rumors, and even surprising audiences - something that is increasingly hard to do in an era of insiders and scoopers.
Sadie Sink took to the stage first, officially confirming to the crowd that she will take her mystery Spider-Man: Brand New Day character, Jean Grey, into the 2028 film as its first confirmed star. Feige then began revealing who would be joining her in the blockbuster, announcing that Kit Connor would be joining the cast as Scott Summers, a.k.a. Cyclops - confirming Deadline's scoop from the previous week. After that, he confirmed that Christopher Abbott would be taking on the role of Professor Charles Xavier, a.k.a. Professor X, confirming the insider reports that had leaked out earlier that day. And then, he revealed that Samara Weaving would indeed play Emma Frost, confirming another report that had surfaced weeks prior to the announcement. Then, the surprises came.

Feige revealed that Inde Navarrette had been cast as Rogue while Maya Boyd would be portraying Storm. While Navarrette had revealed she had met with director Jake Schreier about a role in the film, the insiders hadn't managed to attach her name to a specific role, and the Storm announcement completely caught the audiences off-guard as it was not yet clear as to whether that particular role had been cast heading into the event.
Finally, it was also announced that Star Wars legend Adam Driver would be taking on the role of the film's villain Mister Sinister - in what will undoubtedly lead the X-Men into an adventure unlike any live-action one we have seen before.
Needless to say, this was pretty internet-breaking news. That's saying a lot too, because most of us were expecting the X-Men cast to be confirmed and multiple names had already leaked out prior to the announcement. So that just highlights how sought after the confirmation was - and how highly-anticipated the X-Men movie is.
A Star-studded X-Men cast
Marvel Studios' X-Men cast is a who's who of recognizable faces, which bodes well for the success of the upcoming MCU movie. There were reports that the studio was avoiding A-List movie stars in a bid to target younger audiences by casting stars from today / tomorrow who were pretty early on in their respective careers. This would bring massive, established fanbases while also allowing the actors themselves to grow into the roles over the next decade.
Sadie Sink is the perfect example of this. Jean Grey is arguably at the center of the X-Men's most iconic stories, and Sink herself is no stranger to that - having starred as Max Mayfield in Netflix's Stranger Things, which just wrapped up its juggernaut run in 2025 after five seasons. Kit Connor also knows a thing or two about the devoted Netflix fanbase, as he is best known for starring as Nick Nelson in the critically-acclaimed Heartstopper (alongside Joe Locke, who coincidentally plays Wiccan in the MCU). As Cyclops, it's safe to say that he will also be at the forefront of the X-Men movie as the team's leader.

Inde Navarrette is one of the biggest talents of this year, but she's also no stranger to superhero projects. She starred as Sarah Cushing in all four seasons of The CW's critically-acclaimed Superman and Lois before going on to her breakout role in this year's horror sensation Obsession. When rumors began to swirl that she might be attached to Schreier's X-Men movie, fans were thrilled.
Samara Weaving is one of the most recognizable faces of the past decade, with her biggest roles being in the likes of Ready Or Not and its 2026 sequel, as well as Mayhem, The Babysitter and its sequel, Scream IV and Bill and Ted Face The Music. Australian TV viewers may remember her as Indi Walker in Home and Away while Netflix subscribers are sure to recognize her as Claire Wood from Ryan Murphy miniseries Hollywood.
Christopher Abbott is perhaps best known for his role as Charlie in Girls but he has since enjoyed an incredibly successful run on both the stage and screen, recently starring in films Poor Things and Wolf Man and the Broadway revival of Death of a Salesman - for which he earned a Tony Awards nomination. His name began being associated with Professor X around a week before D23, with insiders reporting that he had been cast just ahead of the announcement.

Maya Boyd is another formidable star of the stage, having starred in Broadway productions of Merrily We Roll Along, & Juliet, and Joe Turner's Come and Gone. X-Men will mark her feature film debut, so it goes without saying that we're all excited to see her bring Ororo Munroe, a.k.a. Storm, to life. And rumor has it that the character might return just a few months after that debut in Black Panther 3.
That brings us to Adam Driver, who was rumored to be playing Magneto in the film. Driver even leaned into those rumors in his video message for the crowd in attendance at D23, joking that he was playing Magneto before actually revealing that he was really playing Mister Sinister. The star, best-known for his role as Kylo Ren in the Star Wars movies, is more than equipped to bring the legendary villain to life.
The full cast has not been confirmed yet. Reports claimed that Riverdale star Charles Melton was in talks for the role of Beast, but that has yet to come to fruition. And then there's the Magneto of it all, as Mister Sinister's role as the main villain has fans wondering if the Master of Magnetism might not feature in the first adventure for Marvel's Mightiest Mutants. We'll have to wait and see.
Taking all of that into account, it's easy to see why Marvel fans are so excited about the X-Men casting announcement. We have waited for years to see the Mighty Mutants make their presence felt on the MCU, so it's safe to say that we're ready to see this star-studded cast bring them to life in the not-too-distant future.
Marvel Studios' X-Men arrives in movie theaters on May 5, 2028.
