D23 Entertainment Showcase live blog: Every Marvel, Star Wars, and Disney announcement revealed at D23

D23 has officially begun, and Disney closed out the first day of the event by showcasing some of its biggest brands together for an Entertainment Showcase packed with major announcements and surprises! 

Disney once again took over the Honda Center in Anaheim to give fans a special look at what’s to come from Marvel, Star Wars, Disney, Pixar, and more. The showcase is always a highlight of the event, as it’s essentially like a Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con cracked up to 11. The event spotlights the upcoming highlights from the studios with a look at both upcoming movies and shows, including first-look footage, casting information, and sneak peeks. 

It’s the opportunity for Disney to also give fans a look at what’s to come and has been used to announce exciting new projects, and the 2026 event was no exception. Heading into the Entertainment Showcase, we knew to expect Disney to go all out with major announcements with rumors swirling over the potential movies and shows that could be announced officially during the event.

With Ginnifer Goodwin and Ke Huy Quan serving as the night's hosts, the bar was set high with expected news for several projects, including The New Simpsons Movie, The Princess Diaries 3, Coco 2, Lilo & Stitch 2, Percy Jackson season 3, Ice Age: Boiling Point, Romy & Michelle 2, Tangled, Oswald, VisionQuest, Avengers: Doomsday, X-Men, Ahsoka, Star Wars: Starfighter, Clay, Hexed, Frozen 3, and more!

Ahsoka season 2 premiere date leaks online

Before Disney Entertainment Showcase even began, news hit the internet courtesy of a leak that originated in the most unexpected places: Getty Images.

Ahead of the presentation, Getty released a photo of stars Rosario Dawson and Eman Esfandi and showrunner Dave Filoni signing a poster for the upcoming season. At the bottom of the season 2 poster was a release date of January 20, 2027! That's right, it seems Ahsoka will help to kick off Disney+'s 2027 lineup, arriving at the beginning of the year, which is exciting news for fans who have been waiting over three years for new episodes.

During the panel, the release date would be confirmed and we'd also get our first look at the new season via the first trailer for season 2!

The Princess Diaries 3 gets promising update from Anne Hathaway

While fans might have been hoping for something big for The Princess Diaries 3, Disney kept things simple but assures fans the project is very much still in progress.

“We’re working so hard to get The Princess Diaries 3 right," returning star Anne Hathaway told attendees, assuring them the third film in the franchise is very much still alive and in development.

The New Simpsons Movie footage debuts

Hours after confirming the title for The Simpsons' next movie will be The New Simpsons Movie, 20th Century Fox debuted new unfinished footage for those in attendance. The footage began with Homer stepping up to bat at a baseball game and a chase ensuing for the ball throughout the stadium. Chaos ensues around them at Isotope Stadium.

It was also revealed that the film's release date has been delayed from July 23, 2027, to September 2027, giving the film a Labor Day weekend release.

Incredibles 3 plot details revealed alongside first-look photos

As the action moved along to Pixar, we got our first look at new concept art for The Incredibles 3, with Pixar also confirming the film will see the returns of the Parr family, Frozone, and Edna. The new film will put a focus on Violet, Dash, and Jack-Jack who step into lead roles to prove themselves as heroes by sneaking out of the house at night to protect the city behind their parents' backs.

While no villain was revealed, it was teased that the villain will focus on the idea of how not all superheroes are good. We also got a release window for the film, with Pixar announcing that the film will release in Summer 2028.

Coco 2 gets release window as Pixar confirms time jump

After dropping news about Incredibles 3, Pixar confirmed that Coco 2 will hit theaters in 2029. The new film will feature a yet unknown time jump, as is evident by the newly released key art, which depicts Miguel as a teen.

Miguel won't be the only character returning for the sequel, as it was announced that Benjamin Bratt will be returning to voice the villainous Ernesto De La Cruz. We also know that Mama Coco will also be back as revealed via concept art for the highly anticipated sequel.

As a final tease, it was announced that the world of Coco will be coming to Kingdom Hearts as well. Speaking of Kingdoms of Hearts.

Disney+ greenlights Kingdoms of Hearts series

After revealing that the world of Coco will be coming to Kingdoms of Heats, Disney announced that it has officially ordered an animated series based on the beloved video game series.

“Kingdom Hearts has captivated gamers everywhere with its unique blend of adventure and imagination,” said Ayo Davis, president, Disney Kids & Family. “There’s something really exciting about taking a world fans have spent years exploring through the games and bringing it to life in a completely new way. And with a creative team that is working closely with the legendary Tetsuya Nomura, our new series will be unmistakably Kingdom Hearts, while giving fans a whole new way to experience the world they love.”

Pixar announces its newest film Ghost Market

As Pixar planned to wind down its portion of the presentation, the studio announced its new film Ghost Market will release in 2028. The film was announced via footage shown at the presentation in which we see a boy named Kyle wandering through a dark and empty kitchen. We learn Kyle has recently moved to Hawaii with his family as he begins to tell the crowd about the movie being about "hungry ghosts" as he promises Ghost Market isn't like other scary movies.

Pixar also snuck in a tease of GATTO, releasing on March 5, 2027, which will feature hand-painted animation and center around a music-loving black cat named Nero who is rejected by superstitious locals in Venice.

Lilo & Stitch 2 will introduce Angel

After Lilo & Stitch made waves at the box office, Disney was quick to order a sequel, and new information has finally come out about the follow-up film at D23. While we still don't have a release date, just a release window of Summer 2028, we do know that the follow-up film will introduce Stitch's love interest, Angel, into the live-action universe.

Disney's Bluey movie trailer debuts

The Bluey Movie took over D23's Entertainment Showcase to debut the first look at the new CG-animated film based on the beloved kids' series. The new teaser didn't offer up much in the way of play details, but it did offer up our first look at Bluey and Bingo which was followed by a game of Keepy Uppy in the Honda Center.

The film will hit theaters on August 6, 2027.

Percy Jackson season 3 trailer drops at D23

When Disney opted not to debut a trailer for Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 3 during the show's San Diego Comic-Con panel, fans immediately shifted their attention to D23. Thankfully, Disney came through with the trailer for the third season arriving during the Entertainment Showcase.

The new trailer gave fans their first look at the show's adaptation of The Titan's Curse, while Disney offered up a new tease of what's to come via season 3:

"If Percy Jackson learned anything after completing two epic quests with Annabeth Chase, it’s that he would be lost without her. So when Annabeth is captured by the forces of Kronos, Percy must embark on a perilous journey to rescue her. He must free a goddess in chains, confront the Titan’s curse, and avoid triggering the fall of Olympus. With Grover by his side, Percy must join some unlikely questmates to confront a prophecy with dire consequences."

Disney sets March 2028 release date for Tangled

Disney's next live-action remake, Tangled, will officially hit theaters on March 31, 2028. The release date puts it out ahead of the summer rush, which should hopefully bode well for the film after Moana's underperforming box office run.

As filming is currently underway, stars Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim were unable to join the presentation; however, they sent a special message from Spain which gave fans their first look at the pair in costume as Rapunzel and Flynn Rider.

We also got our first look at Kathryn Hahn's Mother Gothel, who is giving serious Agatha Harkness energy.

The Greatest Showman stage musical sets Spring 2027 opening

The Greatest Showman's highly anticipated stage musical will officially open at Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London’s West End in Spring 2027. Oliver Tompsett and Samantha Barks will star as P.T. Barnum and Charity Barnum, with the musical also featuring Ben Joyce as Phillip Carlyle, Vajèn van den Bosch as Jenny Lind and Malinda Parris as Lettie Lutz.

“It’s rare for a new film musical to capture the world’s imagination in the way ‘The Greatest Showman’ has – both for its story and record-breaking soundtrack. The piece is fearless in its emotion: open-hearted, exuberant, and unapologetically joyous, celebrating those considered outsiders and dreamers,” said Anne Quart and Andrew Flatt of Disney Theatrical Group.

Oswald returns with a new miniseries in 2027

One of Disney's most iconic characters will return via a new animated miniseries slated to release in February 2027. The new 2D hand-drawn animated 3-part series will center around Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, who will be celebrating his 100th anniversary in the new year.

VisionQuest gets an official trailer and gives fans their first look at Tommy Maximoff

As the evening began to wind down, Marvel Studios finally took to the stage and did not hold back in starting off its portion with a bang. Marvel opened by debuting the first trailer for VisionQuest, which will be the end of the WandaVision trilogy and finally give fans a look at what happened to White Vision after he fled in the WandaVision finale.

The trailer offers up a lot of amazing moments, including our first look at Ruaridh Mollica as Tommy Maximoff, and the return of James Spader as Ultron.

Marvel also debuted a new poster for the series, which will arrive on October 14.

Marvel debuts a new trailer for Avengers: Doomsday

After dropping the trailer for VisionQuest, the action shifted to Avengers: Doomsday with Marvel bringing out stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Hayley Atwell. The footage showed fans a new look at several previously confirmed characters, including Magneto, Gambit, and Doom, with the footage finally giving fans a better glimpse into Doom's connections to the Fantastic Four.

Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds confirmed for Doomsday

Hugh Jackman took a page from Ryan Reynolds and crashed the Doomsday panel to offer up his help in joining the cast for the film. The segment seemed to all but confirm that we'll be seeing both Deadpool and Wolverine in the upcoming film, though the size of their roles remains to be seen.

Marvel assembles its X-Men cast and sets May 2028 release date for the film

Heading into the Entertainment Showcase, all eyes were on the X-Men. It was highly reported that we'd finally get the official cast announcement for the film during the Marvel Studios portion of the presentation, and that ended up being true. During the presentation, Marvel officially announced the first core members of the cast, which includes:

• Sadie Sink as Jean Grey
• Kit Connor as Cyclops
• Samara Weaving as Emma Frost
• Christopher Abbott as Professor X
• Inde Navarrette as Rogue
• Maya Boyd as Storm
• Adam Driver as Mr. Sinister

Marvel also announced that the highly anticipated film will release on May 5, 2028.

Zootopia 3 gets the green light

After Zootopia 2 stole a page from Marvel Studios by teasing another chapter in the closing moments of the film, it was only fitting that after a third film in the franchise was greenlit directly after Marvel's presentation. That's right, Zootopia 3 is happening!

Star Wars: Starfighter arrives but only for those in attendance

Fans in attendance got to see a first look at the Shawn Levy-directed, Ryan Gosling-starring Star Wars: Starfighter film, which gave fans a new look at Gosling's character. The footage introduced Goslin as Kade, a pilot, as well as Flynn Gray's character, whose name remains unknown. In the footage shown, we see Gray walking into a spaceship garage and coming across a spaceship as Gosling enters the garage and quips, "Didn't I tell you not to touch anything?"

The footage was not released widely, so we'll have to wait to see when Disney chooses to debut the footage, though if we had to guess, Avengers: Doomsday feels like a strong guess.

D23 ends with a look at Clay, Hexed, and Frozen 3

As the Entertainment Showcase drew to an end, Disney showcased two of its upcoming animated features beginning with Clay.

We got a look at new concept art for Clay which will drop in November 2028.

We then shifted to Hexed which revealed that Walton Goggins and Jodie Foster had joined the cast as Beef Roger Crummchuck and Queen Celeste. Goggins' character is a three-eyed green cat and the sidekick of Hailee Steinfeld's teen witch.

The event closed out with Frozen 3. Fans in attendance got their first look at the upcoming film. which included footage of Anna and Kristoff's wedding, which was crashed by an icy phenomenon that sends the heroes out into a glacial wonderland where they'll face a new villain.
