Marvel Studios has found a great deal of success in Disney Plus in recent years. The Marvel Cinematic Universe's stories have expanded beyond the big screen, spilling into the world of multi-episode, long-form storytelling. All it took was one episode of WandaVision to show us that Marvel had mastered the medium, and it pulled it off by doing something completely different.

That being said, it began to stumble when it had to tell more straightforward stories. Secret Invasion for example brought Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury to the small screen and it was a huge misfire. Some underperformances later, and it has been forced to shelve a number of projects as it restructures what the new Marvel Television era is going to look like.

Agatha All Along steadied things and now it's up to Marvel to ensure it stays the course. Unfortunately, that might have also resulted in a long-awaited rumored project being taken off the table.

Wiccan and Agatha's story may shift to Young Avengers instead of sequel series

It sounds like that long-awaited, highly-anticipated rumored Wiccan series isn't officially locked in yet. According to veteran Marvel insider Alex Perez, Billy Maximoff and Agatha Harkness' story could continue in the franchise's Young Avengers / Champions spinoff instead. The scooper responded to a question during his monthly Q&A with fans (via The Cosmic Circus), discussing the planned spinoff and the potentially ever-changing plans at Marvel:

"...the Wiccan show, to my understanding, was about him and Agatha finding Tommy. Not sure if they’re going to switch it up and just use that for a Champions’ storyline instead."

Furthermore, when presented with the idea of Billy reuniting with his brother Tommy in one of either Avengers: Doomsday, Vision Quest, or the Champions series, he responded that the "safest bet" would be the third. And given that this project is already in the works - and Joe Locke is expected to reprise his role as Billy / Wiccan - that would make sense.

While it's good to hear that Marvel Studios still has plans for Billy, fans will no doube be dishearted by the possibility of a Wiccan series not going ahead - especially as that would have been the sequel series to Agatha All Along that fans have been hoping for. In fact, it was Perez who said that Marvel was considering making a show centred on the son of the Scarlet Witch and the now-ghostly Agatha, clarifying that all of those Agatha All Along season 2 rumors were likely referencing the potential early development of this show.

The finale of Agatha saw Billy Maximoff attempt to banish Agatha herself, who had now become a ghost after sacrificing herself to save him. But their jount grief over their troubled pasts brought them together and, with that, they decided to team up one more time as Agatha volunteered to help Billy find Tommy. It was thought that this would be the plot of the potential Wiccan series, but it now sounds like it could be incorporated into Champions instead.

Marvel has underwent quite a bit of reshuffling in recent years as a number of underperformers forced the studio to rethink its strategies, opting for a less-is-more approach. While Agatha All Along was extremely successful for both the studio and the Disney Plus streaming service, if Marvel is able to condense Billy's story into one project (instead of stretching it across both), that might make sense from a business standpoint. But, from a purely creative standpoint, a series focusing on just Agatha and Billy would truly be something else. And it should go without saying that it deserves to be seen by the world.

More of Kathryn Hahn and Joe Locke together is a must, regardless of where their next adventures take place.
