Back in March 2022, the Marvel Cinematic Universe expanded its pretty limited library of supernatural characters with the release of the Moon Knight Disney+ series. Marc Spector, Steven Grant, and Jake Lockley all took over the small screen, and the future seemed bright for the iconic hero for a short period. However, any sort of momentum was stopped before it could even begin, as Marvel refused to acknowledge what would happen with the Fist of Khonshu going forward (and whether or not Moon Knight season 2 was ever going to happen).
Over four years have gone by since the release of Moon Knight, and fans are still wondering whether we'll ever see the character again in the MCU. Oscar Isaac confirmed that he wouldn't reprise the role during the upcoming Avengers movies, meaning any potential comeback would have to wait until after the release of Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027. So, is it already a little too late for Marc Spector to steal the spotlight yet again? Fortunately, that doesn't seem to be the case, as Marvel just gave us a small but hopeful tease of the hero's fate.
Moon Knight creator says Oscar Isaac is creatively involved in the character's future
Marc Spector and his other personalities may currently be living under the radar, but that won't be the case for too long. During an interview with ComicBook, Moon Knight's show creator and head writer, Jeremy Slater, unveiled that Oscar Isaac is creatively involved with any future stories featuring the violent hero, and that it would be very shocking if audiences never saw more of him in the MCU:
"The contract Oscar Isaac signed was very much like 'we will do more stories when we find stories that he is creatively excited to tell' (...) So I would imagine part of the challenge, and part of the joy over there, is finding: what stories does Oscar want to explore, and how does he want that character to be used? (...) [I'm] very hopeful and optimistic that we will see him again at some point, because I think he had fun, you know. He was proud of it and was happy that a lot of fans responded positively."

Fortunately, Oscar Isaac himself seems very excited about the possibility of reprising his role in a crossover project. The Golden Globe-winning actor revealed that there have been talks about a Midnight Sons movie at Marvel, and it's just a matter of finding the right tone for a story that's very "crazy", even when it also deals with "real stuff".
One possible reason why we haven't seen more of Moon Knight yet is the lack of proper timing. We all know the Multiverse Saga bit off more than it could chew, and supernatural characters were the ones to pay the price.
For a moment between 2019 and 2022, it seemed Marvel was actively building towards a Midnight Sons movie. After all, a Blade film was announced, Werewolf by Night was released on Disney+, and the world was introduced to the very first live-action version of Moon Knight. Unfortunately, there were a lot of behind-the-scenes setbacks as well.

The Blade movie was indefinitely delayed as Marvel struggled to figure out a direction for the project. Additionally, Mephisto's debut series, Ironheart, suffered a major delay from 2023 to 2025. But in case that wasn't enough, Agatha All Along was also delayed due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. That means Marvel couldn't smoothly set up its supernatural characters and allow them to grow naturally within the MCU. Besides, the studio also had to shift its focus to making Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars the best they can be.
Renowned insider Alex Perez has claimed that supernatural characters like Moon Knight will come back after the end of the Multiverse Saga. Furthermore, they also revealed that Marvel is actively working on a follow-up to both Werewolf by Night and Moon Knight in anticipation of a Midnight Sons crossover. Overall, it seems we'll definitely see more of these characters in the MCU, but we'll have to wait a few years longer.
On the bright side, it is all but confirmed that Moon Knight will take over the screen once more, and we can't wait to see where he shows up next. With a bit of luck, Marvel will talk more about him (and other neglected characters) during its upcoming Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con later this year.
