Marvel stuns fans with new Avengers: Doomsday trailer at SDCC

Marvel showcased a new Avengers: Doomsday trailer exclusively for San Diego Comic-Con attendees, and here's what was shown in the footage.

San Diego Comic-Con came and went in a heartbeat, but not before giving us multiple reveals and exciting new looks at many iconic franchises, including the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After the Avengers: Doomsday trailer unexpectedly dropped a week before the event, nobody knew whether a new look at the crossover would be released at Hall H. On the bright side, Marvel did have never-before-seen footage prepared for the occasion... but on the downside, it wasn't published online for the world to see.

While the new Avengers: Doomsday trailer was exclusive to those in attendance at SDCC, we have enough descriptions and breakdowns to paint a clear idea of the dangers Earth's Mightiest Heroes are about to face. So, grab your shields and summon your magic hammers, because it's time to break down every new detail we learned about the highly anticipated MCU crossover.

The new Avengers: Doomsday trailer is all about Victor von Doom

Thanks to Brandon Davis, we know that the Avengers: Doomsday trailer kicks things off with Sue Storm describing Doctor Doom—the biggest threat across the entire multiverse. Furthermore, Cosmic Marvel provided a transcript of Sue's voice line:

"Victor was always the smartest guy in every room. He used to be different. He used to be kind; he used to be caring. But then everything he loved was taken from him. I knew he was lost, but I did not realize that he was broken."

Warling revealed that audiences saw a glimpse of the Ruler of Latveria on his throne while Sue's narration played in the background, followed by a montage of the many heroes set to fight for the fate of the multiverse in Avengers: Doomsday. Gambit, Ant-Man, Steve Rogers, Thor, the Thunderbolts, and more appeared on screen before the spotlight eventually shifted back to Doom.

During Marvel's panel at SDCC, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige revealed that Doctor Doom and Reed Richards do have a complicated history in the MCU. Fortunately, a small tease of their relationship was also showcased in the new Avengers: Doomsday trailer. As revealed by Discussing Film and Variety, there's a shot of New York reduced to rubble, and Reed asks his archnemesis, "Victor, did you do this?", to which the villain replies: "All of you have lived stolen lives, and now you must give them back."

Another montage of the many characters in Avengers: Doomsday played out, giving audiences brief glimpses of Cassie Lang, Professor X, Magneto, Loki, Cyclops, and more. The footage then showed Thor fighting Doom, in what's presumably the same shot as the one found in the first official Avengers: Doomsday trailer.

Fortunately, the very best sequence was saved for last, as Doctor Doom uses his powers to raise an army of Sentinels from the ground to fight Earth's Mightiest Heroes. This sounds very similar to the leaked Avengers: Doomsday footage that was making rounds online a few weeks ago, in which heroes like Thor, Steve Rogers, the X-Men, Shang-Chi, and more all faced Doom's army of Sentinels.

While the new trailer was short, it put Doctor Doom at the center of the spotlight, revealing that he wasn't always the antagonistic force he's about to become. Besides, it seems Marvel is keen on making the most of their opportunity to finally bring the X-Men into the MCU, not only by featuring many iconic mutants, but also by using the Sentinels as the army of villains for Earth's Mightiest Heroes to fight.

It's unclear when Marvel will release the new Avengers: Doomsday trailer for the whole world to see, but with events like D23 and the Spider-Man: Brand New Day release just around the corner, there's a chance it won't take very long.

Avengers: Doomsday will be released on Dec. 18, 2026.
