He does whatever a Spider can and he's almost back on our screens. Tom Holland is set to make his triumphant return as Peter Parker when the long-awaited Spider-Man: Brand New Day arrives in movie theaters this summer. It's the first time that the webslinger will make an appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since the game changing Spider-Man: No Way Home, so you can rest assured that fans are ready for Spidey's newest adventure.

The first of two MCU movies set to come out this year (the other one being the heavily-anticipated Avengers: Doomsday), there is an air of mystery surrounding this one that makes fans want to know even more about it than the limited information available can usually provide. However, in recent weeks, more and more has been making its way online, giving us more of an idea of what to expect. So, with that in mind, here's everything you need to know about the upcoming film.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day release date

Spider-Man: Brand New Day arrives in movie theaters on July 31, 2026. It was originally scheduled to come out a week earlier than that, utilizing the same Marvel summer movie release date that previous films Deadpool and Wolverine and The Fantastic Four: First Steps came out on in 2024 and 2025, respectively, but a change to the schedule has resulted in it bowing a week later.

Although an official reason for the shift wasn't given, it was likely to move it out of the way of Marvel Studios' planned San Diego Comic-Con panel on that same weekend. Not only could this panel be used to promote the Marvel / Sony co-production, it's important that Spider-Man: Brand New Day's release doesn't get overshadowed by the big teases Kevin Feige and co. are more than likely going to reveal about Avengers: Doomsday. Therefore, moving it to the very next was the wisest choice here.

Spider-Man 4 cast features a who's who of Marvel stars

The Spider-Man: Brand New Day cast is an extremely interesting one and that in and of itself is a reminder of the middle ground that this film occupies. On one hand, it's the fourth film in the MCU's Spider-Man story so we, of course, have Tom Holland, Zendaya and Jacob Batalon returning. On the other hand, it's the start of a new chapter, so we have other MCU veteran making their presence felt, with both Daredevil's Jon Bernthal and Avengers' Mark Ruffalo making their Spider-Man debuts.

We also have some mystery castings, specifically Stranger Things star Sadie Sink, who is rumored to be playing anyone between Gwen Stacy and the X-Men's Jean Grey. Needless to say, she will be making her presence felt in a big way. As will Michael Mando, who is set to reprise his Spider-Man: Homecoming role of villain the Scorpion.

  • Tom Holland as Spider-Man / Peter Parker
  • Zendaya as Michelle "MJ" Jones
  • Jacon Batalon as Ned Leeds
  • Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle / The Punisher
  • Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner / The Hulk
  • Michael Mando as Mac Gargan / The Scorpion
  • Marvin Jones III as Lonnie Lincoln / Tombstone
  • Sadie Sink in a mystery role
  • Liza Colón-Zayas in a mystery role
  • Tramell Tillman

Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer leak, explained

For months, Spider-Man: Brand New Day fans have been eagerly awaiting the film's first trailer. I mean, they have really been waiting much, much longer than that, but it's only in recent months that the buzz has ramped up. And that all has to do with Marvel Studios' release of four trailers for Christmas' Avengers: Doomsday and the complete lack of trailers for Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Ironically, over the course of the first week of Avengers: Doomsday trailers, the Brand New Day trailer leaked online. It sent the internet into a complete meltdown - and Sony too, as they had it pulled within minutes - as fans attempted to decipher what they could from the extremely poor quality clip. The audio was intact, so we could hear Tom Holland's Peter Parker narrating everything he has been through since fans last saw the character in his previous MCU film.

The leaked trailer has essentially been scrubbed from the internet. It's not entirely known how it managed to leak out when there were no imminent plans to release it (although Sony leads this production, they likely struck a deal with Marvel Studios to ensure that a Spider-Man trailer wouldn't surface in the middle of the latter's Avengers: Doomsday marketing push). However, one rumor claims that it came from a market research app that was used to track audience feedback. Needless to say, it was a surprise.

But now, after months of waiting, the first trailer is imminent, with reports claiming that it's expected the week starting March 16. After a lengthy wait, a full trailer leak, another leaked clip surfacing on Reddit months later, and more chaos than you could imagine, it's almost time to revisit the world of our favorite webslinger.

Sony unveiled the first look at Tom Holland's new suit last summer

Although Sony and Marvel Studios have yet to release the first trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, they have offered up multiple first looks. Both of those came last summer when the film started production on Glasgow, Scotland.

Ahead of filming on location in the Glasgow streets, Sony released the first official look at Tom Holland sporting the brand new Spider-Man suit that he will be wearing in the movie. This successfully made the first look footage the story of the day ahead of the inevitable set photos that surfaced of the film in production. And it very quickly had fans losing their minds.

Shortly afterwards, the studio also unveiled a look at the first day on-set. A collection of clips and interviews filmed by Sony's own camera crew, it featured some epic visuals and gave us a taster of what to expect from that major set piece in which the wall-crawler swings after a large tank and lands on top of it. Needless to say, this early first look understood the assignment perfectly, keeping us all excited and ready for the eventual official trailer release over six months later.

Here's what Spider-Man: Brand New Day is about

While much of the plot of Spider-Man: Brand New Day remains a mystery, there are some things we can confirm. First of all, it will be set four years after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home and is still very much focused on dealing with the aftermath of that film. That much was confirmed by an official synopsis of the movie, which has just recently made its way online. Read it below:

"Four years have gone by since we last caught up with our friendly neighborhood hero. Peter Parker is no more, but Spider-Man is at the top of his game keeping New York City safe. Things are going well for our anonymous hero until an unusual trail of crimes pulls him into a web of mystery larger than he’s ever faced before. In order to take on what’s ahead, Spider-Man not only needs to be at the top of his physical and mental game, but he must also be prepared to face the repercussions of his past!"

You might remember that No Way Home saw Doctor Strange cast a spell to ensure that everyone forgot about Peter Parker. It was designed to counteract a previous spell that had gone wrong, bringing everyone who ever knew Peter was Spider-Man from across the mulrtiverse to the MCU's Earth-616. In order to stop it, he didn't just have to erase knowledge of Spidey's secret identity, he had to erase Peter Parker - or at least the knowledge of his existence - from the minds of everyone.

That meant that everyone Peter loves - from Ned and MJ to the Avengers - forgot of his existence. This understandably led to an emotional farewell between Peter and MJ, with the pair promising that they would find their way back to each other. However, upon arriving to tell her everything in this brave new world, he saw that both she and Ned got into college - a stark contrast to what happened when they were caught up in the Spider-Man true identity scandal earlier in the movie. And with that, he decided not to tell them about their former lives, deducing that they might be better off without Spider-Man in their lives.

While MJ and Ned are expected to have reduced roles in Spider-Man: Brand New Day simply due to where the story is at at this particular point in time, the long-term goal of the new Spidey trilogy is to have Peter's loved ones remember who he is. And with that, they will all find their way back to each other.

For now, though, Peter's life as Spider-Man is thriving. He's the Freindly Neighborhood Hero that he promised Tony Stark that he was capable of being and he's living his best superhero life. Unfortunately, his life as Peter Parker is all but nonexistant. And this film is expected to showcase the highs and lows of the double life - or lack thereof - that he's been living since Doctor Strange cast that spell.
