The Marvel sequel we've all been waiting for is happening, reports say

We had to endure a long wait, but the Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel we've all been waiting for years might finally be in development.

After Earth's Mightiest Heroes assembled one last time to stop Thanos and his quest to erase half of the life in the universe, the Marvel Cinematic Universe began a new chapter in the form of the Multiverse Saga. This new era has been filled with some incredible heights, such as Spider-Man: No Way Home and Deadpool & Wolverine, along with some unfortunate lows (looking at you, Secret Invasion). However, one of the most common complaints is the lack of a clear overarching narrative across multiple projects.

Very few MCU movies and Disney+ series have dealt with the Multiverse and its dangers. Moreover, characters from the supernatural corner of Marvel were introduced to never be seen again. The worst part? We've been in the dark about their future and whether their story will be followed up on at some point. After all, very few projects slated for release after Avengers: Secret Wars have been officially announced. But, at long last, we have news about the fate of an MCU horror icon, and it's everything we've been asking for.

A Werewolf by Night follow-up is in the works at Marvel

Don't you love it when a long-awaited sequel is just casually announced? Deadline recently had the chance to interview Michael Giacchino, the composer of many MCU movies, including The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Spider-Man: No Way Home, as well as the director of Werewolf by Night.

While Giacchino mostly talked about how his score for Marvel's First Family evolved and changed through production, Deadline confirmed that he will "direct his follow-up to Werewolf by Night", all the while the director urged audiences to see the first chapter in the saga: "If you haven’t seen it, watch it. It’s on Disney+ if you still have that."

For a long time now, it's been reported that Marvel will revisit many supernatural characters like Moon Knight, Mephisto, and Werewolf after the end of the Multiverse Saga. Furthermore, it seems the superhero giant has a larger plan in store for all of their overarching storylines, given that a Midnight Sons movie is reportedly in development along with a Damnation comic book adaptation. As such, one of the objectives of the Werewolf by Midnight follow-up will be to bring back Jack Russell, Elsa Bloodstone, and Man-Thing into the MCU before their eventual team-up with other heavy hitters.

Now, the biggest question in store is: When could we see the release of such an anticipated project? Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed that the plan is to release three MCU movies and two series tops per year, so there's a chance that one of 2028's show slots goes for a Werewolf by Midnight sequel. However, there's also a chance that the fourth season of Daredevil: Born Again comes out in 2028 (given the project's yearly releases), potentially with the rumored Jessica Jones series. If that were to be the case, then Werewolf wouldn't be back until 2029.

It's nice to know the introduction of the supernatural characters in the MCU hasn't been in vain. Granted, TV projects like Werewolf by Night and Moon Knight were released all the way back in 2022, and their characters are not expected to come back until 2028 at the earliest, which speaks volumes about how disorganized the Multiverse Saga has been at times. Introducing a beloved anti-hero only to have them disappear for six years is less than ideal. Fortunately, audiences still have the opportunity to see them in action in the future.

With a bit of luck, Werewolf, Elsa Bloodstone, and Man-Thing will not only be heavy hitters in the MCU's next Saga, but Disney will soon unveil what the overarching plan for their characters is. But for the time being, it appears we'll get another spooky Marvel Studios Special Presentation, and we can't wait to watch it.
