Marvel show officially returning for a second season

After a relatively quiet period for updates, fans worried about the fate of one Marvel show, but its star has confirmed that the second season will happen and that it will film shortly.

Marvel Studios made the decision to branch out into television when launching the Multiverse Saga. That brought the Marvel Cinematic Universe to the Disney Plus streaming service with some brand new original content that continued the adventures that kicked off on the big screen over 20 movies prior to that. Its first series WandaVision achieved critical acclaim, earning the franchise its first Emmys, while subsequent outings have also given the spotlight to beloved characters that didn't get the focus in the movies that they needed (while also introducing us to some new heroes, too).

Through each original series, fans have wondered if they will return for second seasons, or if they will remain the miniseries that they were envisioned as by the studio. Most have remained limited series, some have returned for second seasons (and one even a third), while others have been on the good end of rumors about potential renewals in the near-future.

We do know that one of the new batch of shows will be back for another outing, though, with some recent comments confirming that the wheels for season 2 are already in motion before the first one even airs.

Charlie Cox confirms Daredevil: Born Again season 2 is set to begin filming shortly

It's official: Daredevil: Born Again season 2 is happening, and it's almost set to begin production. Actor Charlie Cox recently appeared at the Fan EXPO in San Francisco, alongside co-star Wilson Bethel, discussing both the original Netflix Daredevil series and its upcoming revival on Disney Plus, and during that conversation, Cox confirmed that the show would begin filming a second season around February or March. That means that season 2 will film as the first season is airing on screens.

This is a pretty significant Daredevil update for a number of reasons. For starters, it confirms that the second season is in fact still happening after little-to-no updates on the show's future in half a year. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige did confirm the rumors of a season 2 back in August during an interview with Omelete, adding that the studio really likes the idea of "developing series for multiple seasons", saying that "after all, that's one of the coolest things about television". However, given how the studio has been making changes to the way it has been developing television shows over the course of the past two years, the lack of updates in the meantime had made fans a little nervous about all of the MCU shows. Thankfully, it's only good news for The Man Without Fear.

Daredevil: Born Again now joins Loki in being the only live-action MCU shows to get a second season. Interestingly, that might not be the case for long, as a multitude of rumors have suggested that the studio is interested in renewing classic shows Hawkeye, Moon Knight, and potentially Ms. Marvel for new seasons, too. Marvel has yet to officially confirm if those renewal reports are true, so the fact that Daredevil already has a season 2 renewal before airing a single episode really does highlight how much faith the studio has in the series.

It also makes sense given that 18 episodes were originally ordered for it. When it was originally announced, the show's earlier incarnation was designed as the longest of the MCU shows thus far, expected to be a two-part 18-episode season. However, when that plan was scrapped and overhauled so that the show could be more like its Netflix predecessor, the first season was changed to a nine-episode season (with season 2 now expected to have the other nine). But with rumors of a third season already, and Marvel's plans to invest in less miniseries and more actual television shows, something tells us that Daredevil: Born Again will continue on beyond those 18 episodes.

With the series set to make history and Marvel clearly invested in it, the long-awaited revival of Netflix's Daredevil series is almost upon us - and we can't wait to see what season 1 and season 2 have in store for audiences around the world.

Daredevil: Born Again season 1 premieres on Disney Plus on March 4, 2025.
