Marvel star gives devastating update on long-awaited movie: 'It's not happening'

For a moment, it seemed like this anticipated superhero movie would become a reality. Unfortunately, that isn't the case, as revealed by a Marvel star.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe's Multiverse Saga is more than a gateway to other worlds; it is also a way for previous superhero legends to make a shocking comeback. Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker, Wesley Snipes' Blade, and Patrick Stewart's Professor X are among the beloved characters who we thought we'd never see again, yet they suited up for another adventure in recent years. But in case that wasn't enough, then Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars are sure to have plenty more surprises.

While some of these long-awaited returns were simply temporary, others might be more permanent. After all, it has been reported that Marvel wants Hugh Jackman to portray the role of Logan even after Avengers: Secret Wars. As such, fans hoped that maybe there was room for the story of other iconic heroes to keep going now that they have been reintroduced to the big screen. There is one saga in particular that everybody has been asking to be revived, but much to our disappointment, it's unlikely we'll ever see more of it.

Andrew Garfield denies The Amazing Spider-Man 3 will ever happen

During a video for GQ, Andrew Garfield answered the web's most searched questions, and wouldn't you know it, but one of them was whether The Amazing Spider-Man 3 would really see the light of day. Unfortunately, the British actor put all speculation to rest then and there by stating: "It's not happening, and I don't think it ever will, but sweet of you to want it to happen".

It's not a secret that The Amazing Spider-Man movies weren't particularly successful, especially when compared to the other two live-action Spider-Man sagas. Andrew's time as the wall-crawler came to an end just after two films, the last of which was met with a negative critical reception due to the number of characters it housed and its messy plot. Fortunately, all of that was forgotten when Andrew made an incredible comeback (in every sense of the word) during the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home.

The moment credits rolled on the wall-crawler's latest movie, fans created petitions to see one more entry in The Amazing Spider-Man saga. After all, Iconic heroes such as Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man, Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow, and (for a time) Hugh Jackman's Wolverine usually have a proper farewell before hanging up the suit. Unfortunately, the same does not hold true for Andrew's Peter Parker, and with the claims that he wants to fight an alien, we all wanted to see more of him on the big screen.

On the bright side, even if The Amazing Spider-Man 3 never comes to be, there's still a chance we can see Andrew save the day once more as the friendly neighborhood hero. While the actor unequivocally denied his involvement in Avengers: Doomsday, he had a more cryptic and positive answer regarding a possible appearance in Avengers: Secret Wars. Furthermore, insider MyTimeToShineHello recently hinted that we'll see more of the amazing Spider-Man further down the line.

The MCU's Multiverse Saga will come to a definite end with the release of Avengers: Secret Wars, which means the anticipated crossover will be Marvel's last chance of shining the spotlight on characters from other worlds and franchises. With that in mind, it wouldn't be too far-fetched to assume the three versions of Spider-Man will team up for one last adventure. Besides, Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker is reported to have a role in Avengers: Doomsday, which means there could be plans in store for Andrew as well.

The Amazing Spider-Man 3 may always be a What If...? scenario, but it is very likely that No Way Home won't be the last we see of Andrew wearing the iconic red and blue suit. Fortunately, some answers might finally come our way next year when we witness the beginning of the end of the MCU's Multiverse Saga.

Avengers: Doomsday will be released on Dec. 18, 2026.
