When Thanos personally began his hunt for the Infinity Stones, Earth's Mightiest Heroes were separated into two teams and tried to stop him on two different fronts. Iron Man led an attack on the villain's homeworld, Titan, while Black Panther gathered all of Wakanda's forces to fight Thanos on Earth. Unfortunately, the Avengers ultimately lost the battle, and this 'divided' approach proved to be their doom. You'd imagine that lesson would stick around long enough so that the next time a big threat comes, every single Marvel Cinematic Universe hero comes together for the greater good. Unfortunately, that won't be the case.
Avengers: Doomsday is shaping up to be the biggest superhero movie to date. However, key characters like Moon Knight and Daredevil will reportedly miss out on the action as a whole. Similarly, fan-favorites such as Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch weren't present on the official cast reveal. While their absence will leave very big shoes to fill, heroes from all over the multiverse could rise to the occasion. Anyone could make an appearance at any given time to save the day... or so we initially thought. See, a big Marvel icon just confirmed he won't be in the crossover altogether despite fan expectations, and this time, there could be evidence to suggest he's not lying.
Andrew Garfield confirms he won't reprise his role as Spider-Man in Avengers: Doomsday
During a recent video for GQ, Andrew Garfield answered many comments and inquiries from every corner of the internet. Eventually, he came across a question that asked: "Will Tobey and Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man be in Avengers: Doomsday as well?" to which the British star answered: "No. Unequivocally, f*****g no".

Now, I know what you may be thinking: 'Didn't Andrew heavily deny his involvement in Spider-Man: No Way Home, despite making an appearance in the movie?'. Well, yes. This is the MCU we're talking about. The possibility of unexpected comebacks is always open. That being said, there's reason to believe he really won't be in the movie.
It has been reported that not even Tom Holland's Spider-Man will help Earth's Mightiest Heroes in their upcoming adventure. So why will the two spiders miss out on the movie? Well, it might be to make space for another Marvel legend: Tobey Maguire.
Insider MyTimeToShineHello recently revealed that Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man will appear in Avengers: Doomsday. Furthermore, "leaked" set pictures from the movie's set showcase Tobey in costume, ready for action. Granted, it's always best to take every rumor and alleged photo with a grain of salt. However, it's hard to deny that the upcoming crossover will shine the spotlight on previous iterations of Marvel characters who were believed to be long-gone at some point.

Many variants of the X-Men from the Fox Universe will make an appearance in Avengers: Doomsday, and it would be a shocker if Hugh Jackman's Wolverine is not among them. As such, it wouldn't be surprising if Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man also has a big role to play. Granted, you could argue that Andrew Garfield is also among Marvel's past legends, but the good news is that his appearance could come further down the line.
While Andrew "unequivocally" denied a possible appearance in Avengers: Doomsday, he was a bit more cryptic when asked about his involvement in Avengers: Secret Wars. That could be a hint that the Amazing Spider-Man will be present for the conclusion of the MCU's Multiverse Saga. Furthermore, it has been reported that Tom Holland's Peter Parker will have a prominent role in Secret Wars despite not being present in Doomsday. Besides, if Tobey Maguire really swings onto the screen next year, then chances are he'll also do so in 2027.
The three Spider-Men could reunite for one last adventure during the events of Avengers: Secret Wars, and that prospect is nothing short of exciting. But while that day comes, it's best to believe Andrew on this one, and instead go into theaters with the sole expectation of watching the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Avengers share the screen for the very first time in cinematic history.
Avengers: Doomsday will be released on Dec.18, 2026
