Marvel still has plans for this beloved MCU villain, reports say

While the MCU has featured many one-and-done villains throughout the years, that won't be the case for this newly introduced fan favorite.

We all know that the villains in the Marvel Cinematic Universe projects haven't been historically beloved by fans, and with good reason. Most of them were taken out on the same project where they made their debut, and more often than not, they were just an evil version of the titular hero (yet without nearly as much character development). However, the superhero giant has been redeeming itself lately in this particular area, and all signs indicate it will only get better from here.

Thanos, Sentry, and Agatha Harkness are some of the recent examples of antagonists done right in superhero movies and series. Better yet: They all had (or are set to have) more than one single appearance under their belts. So, to keep the streak going, a new report revealed that a recent fan-favorite isn't done with the MCU yet either. Audiences fell in love with this character the moment she made her debut, we were all shocked to learn her true identity, and now we're eager to see her return.

Death will reportedly be back in an upcoming MCU project

There's no escaping Death, quite literally. According to reliable industry insider Alex Perez, Aubrey Plaza's Death "will be back" in the MCU. Unfortunately, we didn't get any hints or tidbits about where we might see her next. However, three different reports might lead us in the right direction.

For starters, it has been rumored that the Vision Quest Disney Plus series will act as the final entry in the WandaVision trilogy. As such, it's presumed to mark the debut of Ruaridh Mollica's Tommy Maximoff in the MCU. This is an important detail because the last time we heard about the speedster, it was confirmed that he was reborn in a new body, prompting both Wiccan and Agatha to go look for him. That could potentially open the door for these two characters to appear in the series, and, wouldn't you know it, but they have a complicated history with Death. So there's a chance that the relentless villain might keep on haunting them on Vision Quest as well.

That being said, Death is all the more likely to appear in the reported Champions Disney Plus show. After all, Alex Perez stated that the project will be a direct continuation of Tommy and Agatha's current story. Besides, we all know a hero is only as good as its villain. So if multiple Young Avengers are set to come together to work as a team, they need a threat just as powerful to face, and Death is the perfect choice. Besides, Riri Williams and Wiccan (who could very well be a part of that team) already have experience with the "supernatural", so it would be thematically fitting.

One last (albeit more unlikely) possibility is that Death will appear in the biggest MCU crossover ever: Avengers: Secret Wars. It's been long rumored that the final chapter in the Multiverse Saga will feature the return of many villains audiences had seen before, including Thanos. And since the Mad Titan never had the chance to interact with his eternal love during the events of Avengers: Infinity War, now it would be the perfect chance to do so.

However, in a movie as crowded as Secret Wars, it's likely that the characters who aren't directly involved in the Multiverse storyline will be missing, and Death is certainly one of them. So, for the time being, both Vision Quest and Champions hold the best chances of marking the villain's return. On the bright side, all signs indicate that there's a lot more Death coming in the MCU, and we couldn't be any more excited.

Avengers: Doomsday will be released on Dec. 18, 2026
