The Marvel video game we've all longed for might finally be in the works

There's one highly popular Marvel hero who has yet to be the star of his own video game. Fortunately, Marvel could soon rectify that mistake.

General Manager of Marvel Games, Haluk Mentes, was recently interviewed by Game Informer about several exciting video games on the horizon, as well as the philosophy that drives them to find the perfect studios to work with. While Mentes didn't give anything away about what the future holds in terms of unannounced titles, he did hint that the superhero giant plans to keep collaborating with Insomniac Games—the masterminds behind the Marvel's Spider-Man franchise and the upcoming Marvel's Wolverine title:

"As is usually the case, once we complete a project together, they, too, become "Marvel". Marvel’s Wolverine with our dear friends at Insomniac Games is perhaps the epitome of this philosophy. We have been working together for more than a decade and developed such a shorthand across multiple Marvel’s Spider-Man games that when the time finally came to bring Logan back in spectacular and visceral fashion, it was obvious to everyone on our team that Insomniac was the perfect choice. It was our shared culture and values that brought us together, and we’re so proud to continue collaborating for many years to come".

For the time being, the only upcoming video game from Insomniac Games that has been officially announced is Marvel's Wolverine. With that in mind, the question then becomes: What other project could the studio work on, if their collaboration with Marvel continues for "years to come"?

For starters, it is very well known at this point that Marvel's Spider-Man 3 is a reality, given that Yuri Lowenthal and Nadji Jeter—the voice actors behind Peter Parker and Miles Morales, respectively—have already given away some story tidbits. Furthermore, it has been rumored by several sources that a Marvel's Venom title is potentially coming our way in 2027, bridging the events between Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and 3. However, a new report suggests that yet another iconic hero might receive the "Insomniac treatment", and it's everything we could've hoped for.

A Daredevil game might be in the works from Insomniac Games

According to insider That REDACTED Guy, Marvel wanted to collaborate with PlayStation to develop a Daredevil video game. Furthermore, he indicated that "Insomniac may have secured this project". If that turns out to be the case, not only would PlayStation have timed-exclusivity rights for three major Marvel heroes (before their games eventually release on PC), but Insomniac would get to work on all of them, too, and that could have huge implications down the road.

This isn't the first time we've heard about Insomniac potentially working on a Daredevil video game. A hidden Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Easter Egg had fans theorizing that the villainous organization, The Hand, would be introduced in a major capacity, and that perhaps we could see Daredevil fight them in a DLC. After all, the Murdock & Nelson law firm has been found in Marvel's Spider-Man, which means the Man Without Fear already exists within this universe.

Unfortunately, Insomniac revealed that no DLC for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 would be released, and the chances of watching Peter and Matt cross paths in a potential video game crossover seemed to be over. However, not only would it seem like a no-brainer for a character as popular as Daredevil to be the star of his own video game, but Insomniac would be the perfect developer to work on it, too, given its impressive track record.

Rumor has it that Wolverine will appear in the Marvel's Venom video game in the form of a boss fight (much like in Ultimate Spider-Man (2005) or Spider-Man: Web of Shadows). If that turns out to be the case, then it would be an indication that a potential crossover between Spider-Man and Logan could be in the cards. If Insomniac also works on a Daredevil video game, then there could be a chance that we see all three heroes reunited in one of the first Marvel video game "crossovers".

Despite his level of popularity, the Devil of Hell's Kitchen has yet to be the star of his own video game (aside from one Game Boy movie tie-in title). Back in the early 2000s, developer 5000Ft was working on a Daredevil video game called The Man Without Fear, which came very close to completion but was ultimately cancelled due to creative differences between the studio and PlayStation. Since then, Matt Murdock has appeared alongside other heroes in games such as Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects or Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2. Despite that, fans still eagerly await the day when he gets the spotlight solely to himself.

With a bit of luck, not only will Matt Murdock get his own video game in the near future, but the ideal studio will get to work on such an anticipated project. If history has taught us anything, it is that Insomniac is definitely up to the task, so we'll have to wait and see if Marvel's Wolverine holds any Easter Eggs that suggest Daredevil's debut is near.

Marvel's Wolverine will be released in Fall 2026.
