Matt Reeves teased the villain of The Batman: Part II a long time ago

Not even the World's Greatest Detective could've solved this mystery.

Ever since a sequel to Matt Reeves' The Batman was announced, fans have had the same question in mind: Which of Gotham's many villains will get the spotlight next? The Caped Crusader has one of the most iconic rogues' galleries of any superhero ever created, and even some of the most obscure antagonists could rival Robert Pattinson's iteration of the beloved DC hero.

Unfortunately, The Batman: Part II was pushed back from 2025 to 2028 after three delays. And through all this time, the studio is still trying to keep the main villains under wraps. However, nothing can stay hidden from the World's Greatest Detective or from his fans.

Model Heidi Klum recently dressed as a giant severed hand for Halloween. Interestingly, makeup artist Mike Marino—who happens to work on The Batman: Part II—aided in the creation of Klum's costume. So when a behind-the-scenes photo was taken of the attire, eagle-eyed viewers noticed that some face sculpts used for The Batman: Part II were hidden in the background.

These props revealed that Sebastian Stan will play Victor Zsasz, while Brian Tyree Henry will portray Harvey Dent, better known as Two-Face. Last but certainly not least, we can also spot some molds that are labeled "Owl," indicating that masks for the Court of Owls were also made. At long last, the cat is out of the bag, and we know who the main villains of The Batman: Part II will be. However, director Matt Reeves teased one of these castings months ago.

Matt Reeves teased that Brian Tyree Henry would portray Two-Face in The Batman: Part II back in May 2026

On May 14, 2026, Matt Reeves unveiled the new cast members for The Batman: Part II on his social media page. For every new actor, the director posted a GIF along with a quick caption ending with the word "Welcome." However, there was one exception to this rule. When introducing Brian Tyree Henry, Reeves posted the caption: "Welcome to the party, man."

Back then, no one thought much about the fact that Henry's introduction was the only odd one out. However, now that we know the iconic actor will portray Two-Face, fans have pointed out that Matt Reeves was probably making a reference to Prince's "Partyman." Wouldn't you know it? Every person who appears in that music video has either half their face painted white or is wearing half a mask on their face.

With these very subtle hints, Reeves could've been trying to tell us that Brian Tyree Henry is Two-Face all those months ago, yet we only picked up on that reference now. That begs the question: if this tease is indeed real, can we gather more information from the other captions?

Perhaps the second most revealing hint could be the caption used to welcome Charles Dance into The Batman: Part II. Reeves posted a GIF of the Game of Thrones actor stepping into the light with the description "Out of the shadows... Welcome." And if there is one organization in Gotham known for living in the shadows, it's the Court of Owls. Moreover, the text "Out of the Shadows" can also be teasing that the Court's operation will be made public by the end of The Batman: Part II. With this in mind, we can speculate that Charles Dance will be a member of the villainous organization.

The captions for the other characters aren't teasing anything too evident (if they are teasing something to begin with). However, it wouldn't be surprising if we eventually learn their meaning, just as we did with Harvey Dent. But one thing is for certain: Two-Face is coming, and Batman is about to discover a whole new face of the justice system.

The Batman: Part II will be released on Feb. 18, 2028.
