It goes without saying that Spider-Man is one of the biggest and best superheroes of all time. The webslinger has been thrilling audiences on the silver screen for the past 25 years and readers in the pages of Marvel Comics for a lot longer than that. It simply doesn't get bigger than the legendary wall-crawler.
We know that there are some big things destined for Spidey in the years ahead, too. Tom Holland is set to reprise his role as Peter Parker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for Spider-Man: Brand New Day (while also potentially appearing in Avengers: Doomsday, too). An alternate version of the character will return in the second season of animated series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, too. And after that, Holland's version will return in 2027 outing Avengers: Secret Wars.
Before we get to all of that, though, this May is going to be an important month for fans of the webslinger.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse arrives on Disney Plus on May 1
It's happening: Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse arrives on Disney Plus on May 1. The sequel to 2018's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was released in movie theaters in 2023, where it received rave reviews from fans and critics, earning itself almost $700 million at the box office. To say that viewers have been waiting for it to make its streaming debut on Disney Plus ever since would be an understatement.
Disney Plus is where the vast majority of Marvel content ends up, so it might be somewhat curious to you that Across the Spider-Verse didn't arrive there sooner, but there is actually a reason for that. It all has to do with the fact that Sony Pictures owns the movie rights to Spider-Man and most of his characters, meaning that Marvel Studios (which is under the Disney umbrella) can't use the character without Sony's permission. Thankfully, they got that permission for the live-action MCU movies, but the Spider-Verse animated movies are all Sony. That explains why those films, and the MCU Spidey movies for that matter, don't automatically make their way to Disney Plus in the same way that most other Marvel movies do.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse saw Miles Morales thrown into a whole new adventure after reuniting with Gwen Stacy and being thrown across the multiverse all over again, where he meets a whole bunch of Spider-People. Like its predecessor, the star-studded film was received extremely well all around and fans have been eagerly awaiting its sequel ever since.
The great news is that, after years of waiting for any kind of significant update, the release date for the third installment in the franchise, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, was recently confirmed at CinemaCon, with the film settling on a June 4, 2027 release.
That gives us all plenty of opportunities to revisit Across the Spider-Verse on Disney Plus in the meantime and relive Miles Morales' greatest hits while we wait for his next installment.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse premieres on Disney Plus on May 1, 2025.
