The Marvel Cinematic Universe constantly tries to outdo itself, aiming for bigger and better projects as time goes by. The same holds true for its upcoming crossover, Avengers: Doomsday. While it's still too early to tell whether this ensemble film will be better than its predecessors, it certainly will be bigger.
At long last, audiences will see Earth's Mightiest Heroes cross paths with other iconic groups such as the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Thunderbolts. Furthermore, characters from across the multiverse could show up at any moment, with multiple rumors indicating that Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine will be among them.
With so many heroes set to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, it's all but a given that some of them will be more prominent than others. After all, the film's 2027 sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, could balance things out and shine the spotlight on those who had less screen time in its predecessor. But which characters will play an instrumental part in this year's crossover? While the X-Men and Thunderbolts are sure to step into the spotlight, a new report suggests there is another hero who will be instrumental in understanding Doom's plan and bringing together two opposing factions.
Sue Storm will reportedly have a key role in Avengers: Doomsday
According to industry insider Alex Perez (via The Cosmic Circus), Sue Storm will play two important roles in Avengers: Doomsday. First and foremost, her experience in diplomatic relations will be instrumental when trying to get Shuri, the Fantastic Four, and Namor to work together. After all, the Wakandans and the Talokans aren't exactly on the best terms despite striking a peace treaty at the end of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
Namor isn't the best team player, neither in the films nor in the comic books. In the source material, he left the Illuminati after disagreeing with the other members about what to do with the Hulk after the Green Goliath started to become a liability. In the MCU, he declared war on Wakanda after the technologically advanced nation revealed the existence of Vibranium. With that in mind, chances are that he won't be eager to support Earth's Mightiest Heroes in their fight against Doctor Doom, and that's where Sue could come in.
During the events of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, it was revealed that Sue was the one who brokered a peace deal with Mole Man and also brought multiple countries together to create the Future Foundation. So if there's someone who may be able to get the Wakandans and Talokans to fight on the same side of a war, even for a brief period, it's definitely her. Besides, Namor's love for Sue in the source material could also help, but perhaps it's a bit too early for the MCU to venture into that territory.
The second way in which Sue will prove to be a key hero in Avengers: Doomsday is by being "one of those few characters" who have a personal relationship with Victor von Doom. Sue will be able to understand the villain's motivations and what his endgame could be. The second trailer for Avengers: Doomsday already backed this idea up, as it features a monologue from the Invisible Woman who reveals that Victor was kind and caring before everything he loved was taken from him (presumably his wife and son).
It could be thanks to Sue that audiences will learn more about Doctor Doom's backstory, how exactly the villain lost his family, and whether Steve Rogers had something to do with this tragedy, as multiple rumors suggest.
Interestingly, leaked concept art for Avengers: Doomsday showcases heroes like Doctor Strange and Sue Storm on Doom's side. It remains to be seen whether the ruler of Latveria will brainwash some heroes after the creation of Battleworld (as scooper Alex Perez also reported), or if Sue's friendship with the villain will eventually push her to the wrong side of history.
On the bright side, it won't be long before we discover what Marvel has in store for us and how the final two films of the Multiverse Saga play out.
Avengers: Doomsday will be released on Dec. 18, 2026.
