Ever since Disney acquired 21st Century Fox, superhero fans have been excited about the possibility of the mutants joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For years, we couldn't help but watch as the X-Men missed out on the big superhero crossovers and were relegated to their isolated cinematic franchise. Fortunately, that's set to change with the release of Avengers: Doomsday. Fan-favorites like Cyclops, Magneto, and Mystique are bound to make an explosive comeback and join forces with other iconic heroes. Better yet, some mutants have already appeared in other MCU projects.
It all started when Kamala Khan was revealed to be a mutant during the finale of Ms. Marvel. Narmor made his debut shortly after in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and now it has been heavily implied that Simon Williams is also a member of such an exclusive club.
We've also seen Professor X briefly cameo in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and Beast shows up in the post-credits scenes of The Marvels. However, Deadpool & Wolverine takes the crown for the MCU project featuring the most mutants, and the fan reception was so good we might be about to see a follow-up.

Deadpool 4 is reportedly in the works and will be a team-up movie
According to Puck, Ryan Reynolds is "wisely focused" on the creation of Deadpool 4. Furthermore, renowned insider Daniel Richtman doubled down on this information, stating that Wade Wilson won't be alone in his next adventure, as Marvel intends to create yet another team-up project following the success of Deadpool & Wolverine.
Not much is officially known about Marvel's plans after Avengers: Secret Wars releases and the Multiverse Saga concludes. However, it has been heavily theorized that a Mutant saga is upon us. It would make sense, considering one of the only confirmed projects post-2027 is an X-Men film helmed by Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier. If mutants are a core part of the MCU moving forward, Deadpool would definitely be an ideal candidate for another solo project. Now the only question is: What could the Merc With a Mouth do next?
Deadpool 2 is a team-up movie, as it features the assembling of a super team called X-Force. Deadpool & Wolverine also followed the same pattern, pairing Wade Wilson and Logan together for an unforgettable adventure. Even the first Deadpool film featured many iconic heroes like Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead coming together for the greater good. So while it isn't surprising to learn that such a "team-up" pattern will continue, we need to ask: who could be the next character to share the screen with Wade?
Perhaps the most popular option is none other than the wall-crawler himself. Spider-Man and Deadpool had their own comic book series for many years, and their flawless chemistry could very well be adapted for the big screen. Furthermore, the MCU could take advantage of the fact that Wade Wilson loves to break the fourth wall to establish him as one of the few characters who know about Peter Parker and his past (given that there have been multiple live-action Spider-Man franchises at this point). This could add yet another layer to their relationship. Besides, wouldn't it be refreshing to see Peter Parker star in an R-rated project? The pieces are all there for a memorable adventure.
Ryan Reynolds teased that Deadpool will be part of the upcoming Avengers movies. Furthermore, rumor has it that Tom Holland's Peter Parker will have a major role in Avengers: Secret Wars. With that in mind, there's a chance the two iconic heroes will meet over the next few years, paving the way for an upcoming team-up movie later down the line. Of course, this is just speculation on our side, but it never hurts to dream.
Avengers: Secret Wars will be released on Dec. 17, 2027.
