It is no secret that Avengers: Doomsday has a lot of expectations on its shoulders. For starters, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has had a shaky record throughout the entirety of its Multiverse Saga, and the upcoming crossover aims to bring the studio back to its golden days. Critically acclaimed projects like The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Thunderbolts* failed to leave a big mark at the box office, while movies like Eternals and The Marvels failed to break even. While Spider-Man: Brand New Day managed to cushion the blow, it's undeniable that Earth's Mightiest Heroes need to find success with their next adventure.

Fans also hope that the story of Avengers: Doomsday lives up to its titular heroes. For the first time in cinematic history, the X-Men, Thunderbolts, and the Fantastic Four will be part of a major MCU crossover. As such, it would be disappointing to learn the film fails to balance out its many moving pieces, or that its narrative is less than exciting. So, will Marvel's next project truly live up to its potential? Fortunately, a new report seems to suggest so.

The latest reactions to Avengers: Doomsday are reportedly very positive

According to industry insider Daniel Richtman, Marvel recently held an internal test screening for Avengers: Doomsday, and it seems the studio caught lightning in a bottle once again. For starters, the film received positive reviews, with a previous report indicating it is on par with Avengers: Infinity War. Furthermore, the total runtime is reportedly 2 hours and 50 minutes (although it wasn't specified whether this includes the credits sequence).

Moreover, it has been reported that Doctor Doom is one of the MCU's best villains, comparable to the Mad Titan himself, Thanos. This point could come as a big sigh of relief for Marvel fans who worried that the ruler of Latveria didn't have a proper setup throughout the course of the Multiverse Saga. Besides, dropping Kang the Conqueror as the next big bad to fear at the very last minute was a risky strategy, but it ultimately paid off.

An interesting takeaway from the early reactions is that Cyclops is the standout character of Avengers: Doomsday. Superhero fans felt James Marsden's Scott Summers never quite had the opportunity to steal the spotlight in the 20th Century Fox movies (to say the least), so it's nice to know the character will have the opportunity to go out with a bang. Moreover, it's all but confirmed that he will lead this iteration of the X-Men.

An additional tidbit that was shared from the initial reactions to Avengers: Doomsday is that the film has "one important" post-credits scene. This could be an indication that there are multiple post-credits scenes, although only one will set up the events of Avengers: Secret Wars.

Interestingly, a previous report claimed that Avengers: Doomsday would have two key post-credits scenes. But before we break them down, be warned: there could be potential spoilers ahead. One sequence would reveal that Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine are still alive after their fake-out deaths in the film's opening. The other scene would be quite similar, showcasing that Loki survived the events of the movie despite yet another fake-out death.

Maybe one of these sequences was cut, especially since they are very similar to one another. Instead, Marvel could have opted to include a different post-credits scene that doesn't necessarily tease what's to come in Avengers: Secret Wars.

With under two months left to go before Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters, it won't be long before we learn more about the highly anticipated MCU crossover. A final trailer is expected to be released a few weeks before the film's premiere, while Marvel recently dropped new footage that showcases the Fantastic Four in a baseball game. Fortunately, the first public reactions are also bound to come our way, and it will be interesting to see whether they share the same sentiment as the internal reactions.

Avengers: Doomsday will be released on Dec. 18, 2026.
