Well, it's a brand new day for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The fourth solo Spider-Man movie in the franchise has made its presence felt on moviegoers worldwide, instantly defeating any myths about superhero fatigue and the end of Marvel as we know it; swinging its way to a stunning $960 million in its opening weekend. Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios will be laughing all the way to the bank as the world remembers just what Spidey, Tom Holland and Zendaya, The Punisher, and the MCU as a whole can accomplish.
Needless to say, the positive response to the film has reinvigorated interest in the franchise, its Multiverse Saga, and the next chapter from the MCU. With that in mind, if Peter Parker's return to screens, that mysterious ending, the potential of another Spider-Man movie, and Marvel once again has you looking ahead, here's when you can expect the next MCU movie after Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Avengers: Doomsday is the next MCU movie (and it's nearly upon us)
Avengers: Doomsday arrives in movie theaters on December 18, 2026, and it's safe to say that it will be another cinematic phenomenon, just like Spider-Man: Brand New Day. To call it a big one would be to undersell it, for this is what the whole Multiverse Saga (which Spider-Man is a part of) has been building towards, and it's easily going to be one of this year's biggest movies.
Headlined by Robert Downey Jr., who returns to the MCU franchise as new villain Doctor Doom, the film is a star-studded affair led by the likes Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova / Black Widow, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson / Captain America, as well as the ensemble casts of The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Thunderbolts*. Another major selling point is the return of the X-Men, with Sir Patrick Stewart, Sir Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijin, and Kelsey Grammer all reprising their respective roles from the Fox movie series.
This movie will mark the beginning of the culmination of the MCU's Multiverse Saga, leading directly into 2027 sequel Avengers: Secret Wars. Although much of the plot remains under wraps, it will seemingly focus on Downey Jr.'s Victor von Doom - a scientist from the Fantastic Four's world, who bears a striking similarity to Tony Stark and once considered himself a friend of Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal). With incursions taking place around the multiverse - much like the ones described in 2022's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness - Doom reckons himself a savior who can fix it. But considering that his means, methods, and motivations may be questionable, the Avengers plan on stopping him.
With stars from across the Marvel multiverse already confirmed for the film (and a lot of surprises undoubtedly still in store), there are a lot of questions about who else will appear in the movie. That includes Tom Holland's Spider-Man who, despite becoming a member of the Avengers in the previous two Avengers films, is not among the confirmed cast for the upcoming installment.
However, a little tease in Spider-Man: Brand New Day may have allowed the creative teams to make that happen - or, at the very least, explain why it won't happen. And that makes Avengers: Doomsday a must-watch for Spidey fans regardless of whether he actually appears or not.

Is Spider-Man 5 happening?
Will there be another Spider-Man movie? The answer is seemingly, yes, but the definitive plans haven't been officially announced yet. But the intentions are clear, with Marvel Studios' President Kevin Feige recently confirming that there are indeed "always plans" for Spider-Man 5 but that Tom Holland and Zendaya will be taking a well-deserved break before any of that comes to fruition.
It's true that there always have been plans for another Spider-Man film. Sony Pictures' Amy Pascal has made it clear on multiple occasions that the studio would love to continue working with Tom Holland and Marvel Studios making these movies for a long time to come. In fact, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is seemingly planned as the first installment in a brand new Spidey trilogy with Holland's Peter Parker once again at the forefront of it.
After the ending of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, it's clearer than ever that those plans are indeed still in place. We won't go into spoilers here in case you haven't seen the movie, but there is more than enough scope for a sequel. While the previous MCU Spider-Man movies left things pretty wrapped up at the end of each standalone installment (bar for the obvious cliffhangers to revisit in future MCU movies), this one inherently feels like a Part 1 of an overall story.
Whether or not that little tease (which, again, we won't spoil here) was directly setting up Avengers: Doomsday, Avengers: Secret Wars, or Spider-Man 5 is a question that will only be answered in the weeks, months, and perhaps even years ahead. But, as the MCU likes to remind us with its own heroes on many occasions: Spider-Man will return.
After those box office takings, you can rest assured that this is absolutely the plan - more now than it ever was. Spider-Man's return is still on the horizon, and even though we don't know when or where that return will happen, Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios will be ready to make it happen.
