X-Men comic books dominated this week's new releases but they aren't the only issues to check out. There are also tie-ins to the DC Comics event Absolute Power, Skybound/Image Comics releases another Universal Monster mini-series, and more.

Let’s get right into the pick-of-the-week and end with an older comic to read.

NYX (pick of the week)

  • Writers: Collin Kelly, Jackson Lanzing
  • Artist: Francesco Mortarino

Someone is kidnapping the forgotten mutants off the streets of New York and Wolverine (Laura Kinney) is hunting them down. The person in charge is someone called Local. Who are they, what is their plan, and are these the mutants who came from the new Krakoa?

Green Arrow No. 15

  • Writer: Joshua Williamson
  • Artist:  Amancay Nahuelpan

At the end of Absolute Power No. 2, Oliver Queen finds a time-traveling tool to fight back against Amanda Waller. Will this come into play in Green Arrow No. 15? Meanwhile, Professor Ivo is saved by one of Amanda Waller’s followers, Bright. Let’s see if Arrow’s former teammates can get to Ivo before he does.

Something is Killing the Children #40

  • Writer: James Tynion IV
  • Artist: Werther Dell’Edera

Before things return to the present, Something is Killing the Children will publish one more issue from the past and it will lead to issue No. 0. Whatever happens in issue no. 40 could affect whatever’s happening in the present.

Universal Monsters: Frankenstein

  • Writer: Michael Walsh
  • Artist: Michael Walsh

The decision to add Universal Monsters: Frankenstein to this list was easy. Skybound has produced two fantastic Universal Monster comic books (Dracula and The Creature from the Black Lagoon Lives!). This will be another hit.

Absolute Power: Origins No. 2

  • Writer: John Ridley
  • Artist: Alitha Martinez

Amanda Waller blackmailed a politician to get herself power. This issue will show what she does with it. If you haven’t guessed what that is, it’s the beginning of Task Force X a.k.a. the Suicide Squad.

Void Rivals No. 12

  • Writer: Robert Kirkman
  • Artist: Lorenzo De Felici

Darak and Solila have had each other’s backs for a while, but that's about to change. Solila says it’s time for them to go their separate ways. Is this the end of their team-up or will Darak talk her into continuing the journey with him?

Aliens vs. Avengers No. 1 (of 4)

  • Writer: Jonathan Hickman
  • Artist: Esad Ribic

There’s no way this won’t be four issues of fun. You have the Aliens vs the Avengers with the promise of Avengerfied Aliens. Plus, it’s written by Jonathan Hickman. What more do you need?

X-Men No. 3

  • Writer: Jed MacKay
  • Artist: Ryan Stegman

We’re going to learn how X-Men obtained their current base. It’s a legitimate question. The base was owned by Orchis. According to its official description, the X-Men will also discover that their new home isn’t as safe and secure as they think. What could that mean?

X-Force No. 2

  • Writer: Geoffrey Thorne
  • Artist: Marcus To

X-Force No. 1 took Forge’s new team to Japan. This issue brings them to Wakanda. And you know that means Black Panther will be involved. It’s doubtful X-Force will be met with open arms.

Saga No. 68

  • Writer: Brian K. Vaughan
  • Artist: Fiona Staples

The return of Saga didn’t disappoint. Hazel meets who she says will be her best friend for life. Prince Robot is having emotional issues and isn’t talking to anyone about them. Then there’s Gwen and The Will who are still dealing with the death of Sophie. They may never completely cope.

Within that scene of sorrow, The Will gets a call about information on Hazel and Alana’s whereabouts. Hopefully, there will be more about that in this issue. Even if there isn't, Saga never disappoints.

Powers: Who Killed Retro Girl?

  • Writer: Brian Michael Bendis
  • Artist: Michael Avon Oeming

Powers is a masterpiece from the writing to the artwork and this is where it starts. Take a journey into a world where superpowered people are revered. However, unlike The Boys, they’re policed and most heroes aren’t jerks and aren't as disgusting, but the villains are devious.
