It's all change at DC. Fresh off cancelling the DC Extended Universe, the newly-formed DC Studios will be launching the brand new DC Universe in the coming year. That's a lot of DCs in one paragraph, right?! Well that just goes to show you how big things are happening, and DC Studios bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran are about to make it happen.

It all begins for the DCU at the end of this year, with the release of animated series Creature Commandos before the live-action arm kicks off with Gunn's own Superman next summer. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow then comes out in 2026.

Yes, it's all coming together for the new DC movie universe, andthat includes another project, which will carry on the storyline on the small screen. It will feature one of the Justice League's most iconic heroes, and now it sounds like that hero may have been cast.

Kyle Chandler in talks to play Hal Jordan in HBO's Lanterns series

As revealed by Deadline, Kyle Chandler is currently in discussions to join upcoming DC series Lanterns, playing the legendary DC Comics character Hal Jordan. This comes after weeks of speculation about who could play the role when the previous actors associated with it turned it down.

According to earlier reports, Josh Brolin and Matthew McConaughey were among DC's top choices to play the leading role, but both actors opted not to fgo for it. And thus, the search continued, with Chandler entering the fray as of recently.

The studio is reportedly interesting in casting an older actor as Hal Jordan as the project is set to have a very specific dynamic that requires two protagonists of different ages. And that means another one of the iconic Green Lanterns will be involved in too.

Yes, the story is described as a intergalactic murder mystery that will see two officers from the Green Lantern Corps drawn into a situation on Earth after a mysterious death forces them to investigate. The officers in question will be none other than Hal Jordan and John Stewart, with the former being the more experienced of the two. That means that Stewart will be the rookie of the scenario as he joins the Green Lantern Corps and must learn the ropes from Stewart. That role has yet to be cast.

Lanterns is something of a relic from the previous Warner Bros. leadership, as there was a Green Lantern show in development for the Max - HBO Max at the time - streaming service that would have looked at the lives of multiple Lanterns, but it evolved into this project when the new leadership took over.

Hal Jordan is an important part of DC Comics legacy as one of the most iconic - perhaps the most iconic - to hold the Green Lantern mantle. He was portrayed by Ryan Reynolds in the infamous 2011 Green Lantern movie, while The CW's Arrowverse made a number of references to him, too. No doubt fans are ready to see Chandler add to that legacy in Lanterns.

The Emmy-winning star is best known for his role in Friday Night Lights (which earned him that aforementioned award), but he is a veteran of TV and film, having appeared as Dr. Mark Russell in MonsterVerse movies Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Godzilla vs. Kong, and Det. John Rayburn in Netflix series Bloodline.

Here's hoping that the negotiations are successful and that he joins the ranks of the DC Universe in the very near future. Not only would it be great to have another Justice League hero in the DCU, it would be awesome to have an actor the caliber of Chandler as part of the franchise.
