There hasn't been a Marvel movie as hotly-anticipated as Deadpool and Wolverine since Spider-Man: No Way Home. Many of the reasons for that anticipation are the same as they were for the 2021 film, including the return of a classic Marvel actor and the endless possibilities when it comes to potential cameo appearances.

It's well-documented that the biggest selling point of the upcoming movie is the return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, but honestly, there are plenty of reasons for the excitement here, including the fact that it's the third Deadpool movie and the first set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But it's true; Jackman's return as Wolverine ties the film more closely to the Fox X-Men saga, with plenty of reports and rumors of other returnees coming soon afterwards. The fact that this is the Multiverse Saga lends itself to those rumors nicely because, again, the possibilities are endless.

There has been a lot of discussion about the potential of one particular cameo, with the actor themselves claiming that they aren't in the movie. Multiple recent reports, however, suggest it could still happen.

Dafne Keen will reportedly appear as X-23 in Deadpool and Wolverine

Ever since it was confirmed that the movie once known as Deadpool 3 would reintroduce Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, there have been rumors about other X-Men characters returning. Among the most discussed was Dafne Keen's X-23, who appeared alongside Jackman in his then-final appearance in the role in 2017's Logan.

The character's real name is Laura Kinney and she's a clone of Logan who eventually becomes his adoptive daughter. She made her live-action debut in the 2017 film and was there for Wolverine's final moments. Naturally, fans have been speculating that she could return in the upcoming MCU film, with reports suggesting that Keen will indeed reprise her role in Deadpool and Wolverine. However, the actress says otherwise.

Keen has been doing press for her new Disney Plus Star Wars show The Acolyte and she has spoken about her excitement about the upcoming MCU film in multiple interviews, telling On Demand Entertainment that she won't be appearing in it:

"Of course it's sad. I love Hugh and creatively, I love Ryan and I love Shawn. I'm really excited to see what they've made. I think Shawn is one of the best directors out there right now. Obviously, Ryan's a legend. It would have been amazing to be part of it, but I'll just go watch it as a fan, to see my old buddy in it."

The comments are undoubtedly disappointing to fans hoping to see her appear, and it honestly feels like that is something Disney could have made happen since the young star is currently in the Disney bubble due to her recent work on the Star Wars series. With that in mind, fans are hoping that it's just a misdirect and that Keen has learned from Andrew Garfield, who was adamant that he was not in Spider-Man: No Way Home in every single interview he did, only to actually play a significant role in the film.

And it appears that this could very well be the case, as multiple Marvel scoopers have claimed that Keen will still appear in Deadpool and Wolverine in some capacity. Insider Rejected Scooper took to social media to add that she is "still in the film" and that her scenes "never got cut", while fellow scooper GeekyCast stated that "Dafne Keen is 100% in" the film.

We'll have to wait and see if the reports turn out to be true. While Keen's comments are upsetting to fans hoping that she might appear, the Andrew Garfield example is a reminder that any actors appearing in Marvel Studios projects know how to deny the rumors while also just creating more speculation.

Here's hoping that is the case here because there are a lot of Logan fans out there who would love to see Jackman and Keen share the screen one more time - not to mention how awesome it would be see Laura Kinney in the MCU.
