The excitement for Deadpool and Wolverine is reminiscent of the buzz surrounding both Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Both of those movies were released when the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Multiverse Saga was at its peak and the hype was very, very high. And that's a good thing, because it does suggest that after an uncharacteristically weak year for the MCU, things are back on track for the franchise.

Part of the excitement for Deadpool and Wolverine comes from the fact that it could feature an endless supply of cameos and returns from Marvel's multiverse. That doesn't just extend to the MCU movies, as there are rumors about returns from the X-Men movies, other franchises such as the Fantastic Four, and even the classic Daredevil movie.

Now, a new rumor has suggested that we will see another returnee from the X-Men franchise, but not necessarily one you're expecting.

Logan's X-23 could appear in Deadpool and Wolverine

When we last saw Hugh Jackman play his iconic version of Wolverine, the character quietly passed away holding the hand of Laura Kinney, a.k.a. X-23, a young mutant who was just like him. The moment, which took place in Logan, broke fans' hearts and left them wondering if we would see Dafne Keen return in the role in the future. Now, it seems that's what's going to happen in a rather unexpected fashion.

According to Marvel scooper Can We Get Some Toast, X-23 will return in Deadpool and Wolverine and will actually share a scene with Jackman's new iteration of the character. The official trailer for the movie confirmed that the veteran actor would be playing an alternate version of Logan from the one he had played for 20 years in the X-Men franchise, and this new rumor suggests he will share a rather meaningful moment with X-23.

It states that Laura will share her timeline story with the new Wolverine, reflecting on how her version of Logan sacrificed himself to protect her (as seen in Logan). That will undoubtedly be an emotional moment for fans, as Logan's sacrifice is easily one of the most heartbreaking moments in movie history, so it's going to be moving to see Jackman and Keen share a scene together while reflecting on it.

What's interesting is that this version of Wolverine refuses to help Deadpool save his world because he let his world down, which presumably resulted in the deaths of the X-Men. Could his conversation with Laura be what inspires him to step up and fight against those who threaten Wade's world?

This also won't be the only role that X-23 will play, it seems. According to fellow Marvel scooper MyTimeToShineHello, she will be part of a team of resistance fighters, along with Gambit and Jennifer Garner's Elektra, who are operating in The Void and oppose Cassandra Nova and her raiders. Veteran Marvel insider Daniel Richtman also adds that she will be in the movie for more than just a cameo, playing a decent role.

If all of the build-up for both Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness taught us anything, it's that it's always important to wait for official confirmation from Marvel Studios before getting too excited about potential rumors, but there is no denying that this one is pretty exciting.
