Kevin Feige pulling the 'Russo Brothers' card for MCU's biggest upcoming films
Hear me and rejoice! Kevin Feige is reportedly headed in the perfect direction for the next two Avengers movies.
There's no denying that recent Marvel movies, while enjoyable, haven't had the same cultural impact as some of the earlier films. It's hard for me to put my finger on why the audience has shifted so viciously; everyone is so much more critical of the work than ever before, so they have to get the ensemble movies right.
There was a recent rumor suggesting that the Russo Brothers were not going to be involved in Avengers 5 and 6, and I wasn't happy, though I remained cautiously optimistic that whoever was chosen would do well. It's in my nature to look on the bright side, hoping for the best. Life is more pleasant that way—I digress. Now, I don't have to rely on optimism since those rumors have flipped on their noggin as The Hollywood Reporter has indicated Marvel is in talks with the Russo Brothers about directing its next two Avengers films.
Getting the Russo Bros. back is the biggest win possible for MCU fans
There would have been a couple of other directors who would have made great choices for this role, i.e., Ryan Coogler or James Gunn, but Gunn isn't possible now that he runs DC. Coogler is the architect of some of the highest-rated Marvel movies to date, so I have no doubt that he could do the job. There's been speculation about his involvement in other projects, such as X-Men and Black Panther 3 which would be a win for fans.
While Coogler and Gunn would have been perfect picks for directing the next Avengers movies, Anthony and Joseph Russo's track record for superhero group-ups is unimpeachable. Their work consists of four of the MCU's top-10 movies out of their 33-film catalog: Captain America: Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: End Game. That is quite the list! This was almost the story of the ones that got away, but instead, it will be a story of triumph if Marvel is able to finalize a deal and bring the Russo brothers in to oversee the two films.
Hopefully, Feige can use the momentum the talented directors will undoubtedly provide to put the MCU back in the good graces of the masses. Though there are still plenty of supporters, the critics have gotten too loud to ignore. But this announcement should please everybody. If not, they're just looking for a reason to complain, and we can just ignore them.
