Agatha All Along episode runtimes revealed (and they might surprise you)
Marvel Studios is still revelling in the success of Deadpool and Wolverine but now it looks to bring its success back to the small screen too, as its next installment will be none other than Disney Plus series Agatha All Along.
A sequel / spinoff series to WandaVision, it brings back Kathryn Hahn as Agatha Harkness, the witch who tried to claim the Scarlet Witch's power for herself by posing as her seemingly harmless next door neighbour Agnes. It all went downhill for the centuries-old witch when Wanda locked her true personality in the character she was playing, but a chance encounter with a mysterious character (played by Aubrey Plaza) after Wanda's apparent death will see Agatha claw her way back to control.
Viewers aren't quite sure what to expect from the upcoming series (especially after WandaVision was quite innovative with both its format and its runtime), but the trailers suggest we're all in for one heck of a ride. However, the runtimes for the first four episodes have been unveiled, and it paints quite the interesting picture.
Agatha All Along's first four episodes runtime revealed
We now have our first indicators of how long Agatha's new adventures will be, as the runtimes for the first four episodes of Agatha All Along have been unveiled. Twitter account Scarlet Witch Updates, which has been accurate in the past with its various scoops, has revealed the episode lengths:
Episode 1: 39 minutes, 49 seconds
Episode 2: 41 minutes, 25 seconds
Episode 3: 37 minutes, 2 seconds
Episode 4: 40 minutes, 52 seconds
What's interesting about these runtimes is that they likely include the end-credits (which can be up to five minutes long on Disney Plus shows), so that means each one of them will be much shorter without credits. And that puts them on par with She-Hulk: Attorney At Law, the earlier episodes of WandaVision, and What If...? as some of the shortest Marvel TV episodes (specifically the third, which will seemingly runf or just 32 minutes without credits).
It's not unheard of for other Marvel shows to have shorter episodes (Loki could stream the occasional 35-minute episode) but there were always longer ones to make up for that. Agatha, on the other hand, appears to be aiming for replicating the format of the aforementioned shows in just generally being shorter than the typical 42 - 60 minute runtime of the majority of MCU shows.
This is a wise approach. The episodes of WandaVision got in and got out, leaving audiences wanting more without sticking around too long. It's what a number of the subsequent MCU shows have struggled with, so it goes without saying that it's wise for Agatha All Along to adopt the short-and-sweet approach too.
Moreover, given that the show will be toying with some of the same elements that its predecessor did (while also leaning into both musical and horror territories), it's probably for the best that it channels much of what worked for it. This sounds like it's going to be one of the Disney Plus outings that actually makes the most of the fact that it's a TV show (and not a multi-part movie), which will undoubtedly work extremely well for it.
It's also worth remembering that Agatha All Along is nine-episodes long, so there is a strong possibility that the episode runtimes could increase the closer it gets to its finale.
The spooky series will debut on Disney Plus on Wednesday, September 18, at 9:00 p.m. ET / 6:00 p.m. PT with a special two-episode premiere.
