It appears Marvel has an ambitious plan for the cast of Avengers: Doomsday that will include a mix of original Avengers as well as a handful of Marvel heroes making their Avengers debut.

When the Avengers next assemble on the big screen, it seems fans should begin preparing for the largest-scale Avengers team-up the MCU has ever seen… at least if rumors are to be believed and we tend to have a strong feeling they should be.

Nearly 40 characters from the MCU came together to do battle in Avengers: Endgame’s epic final showdown and it’s expected the next Avengers movies will pull together even more heroes. Shocking as this might sound, it’s not really surprising as the MCU has grown quite immensely since the events of Endgame with dozens of new heroes entering the mix and more still to come.

So whenever the time does come for the Avengers to reassemble in Avengers: Doomsday, it makes sense that Marvel would be gearing up for one of the biggest crossover films the MCU has seen. We don’t quite know the scale of the film or the exact roster of heroes that Marvel is looking to feature, but a new rumor suggests Marvel will be attempting to bring back several iconic MCU characters as well as a few fresh faces to complete the ensemble of its next Avengers movie!

Avengers: Doomsday cast rumors suggest the returns of many MCU heroes

At this time, the only character who has been confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday by Marvel Studios is Doctor Doom which isn’t surprising given he’s the film’s main villain. The film will see Robert Downey Jr. returning to the MCU for the first time since Iron Man’s death in Avengers: Endgame, and we know Downey Jr. will be suiting up as Doctor Doom, not Iron Man.

Aside from that, it’s unclear which heroes will make up the Avengers team in Avengers: Doomsday; however, a rumor from Marvel scooper My Time To Shine Hello suggests Marvel is looking to form an Avengers team that will feature both original Avengers heroes as well as characters who have not yet gotten the chance to team up as part of an Avengers ensemble.

It seems there will be at least three original Day 1 Avengers on the team battling it out with Doctor Doom as Hawkeye, Hulk, and Thor are rumored to be coming back for Avengers: Doomsday. Should the trio indeed return, they’ll be in an elite group of heroes to have appeared in every single Avengers film within the MCU and carry the torch as part of the original Avengers that assembled in 2012’s The Avengers.

While Thor and Hulk might be the only OGs currently rumored to return, there will be several other previous Avengers returning for Doomsday including Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel, Star-Lord, Ant-Man, Spider-Man, Scarlet Witch, War Machine, and Pepper Potts. Also coming back are Sam Wilson and Shuri who will make their Avengers debuts as the new Captain America and Black Panther, respectively.

Of course, what’s an Avengers team-up without some fresh faces, and Marvel is rumored to be looking to bring several newer MCU characters into the fold via Doomsday. Daredevil, She-Hulk, Moon Knight, Loki, Agatha Harkness, White Vision, Monica Rambeau, Shang-Chi, and Clea are all rumored to appear as are Deadpool and Wolverine. It’s also rumored that Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire will be coming back for the film which would mark their first time as part of an Avengers project.

Finally, what are the Avengers without a few teams within the team? While it doesn’t look like we’ll get to see the Guardians of the Galaxy back for the next Avengers film, it is rumored the film will feature the Fantastic Four, Thunderbolts, and Young Avengers – though the exact members set to appear remains unknown.

Should these characters indeed be on Marvel’s list for Doomsday, fans are in for a real treat as we can’t imagine seeing this group of heroes coming together on the big screen to battle Doctor Doom! Given filming on Avengers: Doomsday is expected to begin in 2025, it seems likely leaks will begin making their way online and we also imagine Marvel will have to announce at least a few key players for the movie. Until then, we’re sure to hear a lot of rumors about the cast which is shaping up to be one of Marvel’s biggest and best casts ever!
