Marvel veteran will return in Captain America 4, reports say
Fresh off the success of Deadpool and Wolverine, Marvel Studios looks to continue its comeback with the fourth installment in the Captain America franchise. But this won't involve the series' former leader Steve Rogers, as the mantle has now passed to his best friend and confidante Sam Wilson.
The former Falcon was reluctant to carry it on at first, but after the events of Disney Plus series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, he finally agreed to become the next Captain America; both carrying on the legacy of Captain Steve Rogers and starting a new chapter as his own hero. And now, he finally gets the spotlight in Captain America: Brave New World, which makes its way to theaters in February 2025.
It's set to be one of the most pivotal installments in the Marvel Cinematic Universe going forward. And, according to a multitude of rumors (including a recent report), it could very well feature an unexpected appearance from a franchise veteran.
New reports reinforces rumors that Benedict Wong will appear in Captain America: Brave New World
According to a new report from Marvel scooper account Marvel Scoops (formerly known as Marvel News), Benedict Wong will return to the MCU with an appearance in Captain America: Brave New World, reprising his role as Wong.
This isn't the first time that Wong's name has been mentioned in Captain America 4 conversations, as there were previous rumors suggesting that he could make a cameo in it, but as there hadn't been any discussions about it in recent weeks and months, fans had begun to suspect that he may not appear after all. This report, however, suggests that it could still happen.
Wong has certainly made his presence felt in the Multiverse Saga, appearing more than any other character since the start of Phase Four. It all started with an appearance in Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings, before he reappeared in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness (the most significant appearance thus far), and She-Hulk: Attorney At Law.
This has led to fans affectionately titling the saga as the "Wong Cinematic Universe". Much of the reason for his constant appearances has been down to the fact that Wong is the Sorcerer Supreme, as he inherited the title from Doctor Strange after he was blipped out of existence by Thanos during the events of Avengers: Infinity War.
Regardless of whether Wong appears in Captain America: Brave New World or not, he is expected to continue playing an important role going forward, with a third Doctor Strange movie likely on the horizon and even a potential Strange Academy series on Disney Plus. While neither project has been officially acknowledged by Marvel Studios in any official capacity, both titles have been heavily rumored - especially Doctor Strange 3, which is very much expected to happen after the monumental success of the second installment in the franchise.
There are also reports claiming that Wong will have an important role in setting up the next team of Avengers, and that it could happen in Captain America 4. If that is indeed the case, we couldn't think of a better first member than the new Cap himself, Sam Wilson.
Captain America: Brave New World arrives in theaters on February 14, 2025.
