See Hugh Jackman finally wear the Wolverine mask in stunning Deadpool 3 preview
The claws are being sharpened, the "bubs" are being prepared, and the grumpiness is about ready to show up; yes, Wolverine is back. Hugh Jackman will reprise his most famous role, bringing back his beloved X-Men character to help him make his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Deadpool and Wolverine marks the MCU debut for both of its title characters, as the Ryan Reynolds-led franchise is now officially a part of Kevin Feige's shared universe of superheroes. With the MCU often comes comic-accuracy, and you don't have to look any further than this movie, which is allowing Jackman to finally don Wolverine's iconic yellow and blue suit - something that he wasn't able to do in almost two decades of X-Men movies due to their unique approach to the characters.
The recent Deadpool and Wolverine trailer finally gave us our first look at Logan back in action, but the question everyone wants to know is: Where is the cowl? Now we have an answer.
New Deadpool and Wolverine promotional poster showcases Logan's mask
A new promotional poster for Deadpool and Wolverine has surfaced online and it spotlights Hugh Jackman's claw-bearing Logan front and center, mask and all. Deadpool is dancing behind him in the background (as Deadpool often does), rounding out what is a truly incredible image. And it's truly a sight to behold.
Check it out below:
This poster comes after the first preview of Logan's mask leaked online during CinemaCon via soda cups that featured promotional artwork of Jackman's Wolverine on them. It was an awesome preview of what is to come, but seeing him front and center here, staring into our eyes with that cowl on his head; it really does highlight just how perfect it looks. The white eyes are very comic-accurate (and animated series-accurate), too, looking surprisingly convincing in live-action.
The Deadpool and Wolverine trailer may have leaned heavily on Jackman's return as Wolverine but it didn't actually feature any footage of him wearing the iconic yellow and black mask, which has led to speculation that it might not be worn all that often in the film. This poster of Jackman wearing it certainly presents a strong case for why it should feature regularly in the movie, because he looks nothing short of epic when wearing it.
The moment we've all been waiting for
Whether he wears the mask for a long period of time or not, Deadpool and Wolverine will be worth it alone just to see Hugh Jackman finally don that legendary suit. The "banana" suit, as fans have lovingly referred to it as, is a staple of the character's identity in the comics. It became even more popularized due to X-Men: The Animated Series - in which Logan wore it into almost all of his battles across those five seasons. So to see the man who many consider to be the definitive version of Wolverine finally get the chance to wear it; it's just wonderful.
This is a sentiment that Jackman himself seems to feel. The veteran X-Men star told Empire Magazine that it felt "so right" to put the suit on for Deadpool and Wolverine, adding that he couldn't believe it hadn't happened until now (although it did nearly happen in The Wolverine).
"But from the moment I put it on here, I was like, ‘How did we never do this?’ It looked so right, it felt so right. I was like, ‘That’s him."
- Hugh Jackman
Needless to say that fans will undoubtedly feel the same way, especially after seeing their first glimpse of him in action in the trailer. The question is whether the Wolverine mask felt equally "right" and if it will go on to feature significantly in the movie or not.
Nevertheless, everytime we see a new image or footage of Hugh Jackman in Deadpool and Wolverine, he just gets cooler. The man was made for this role and the fact that he's returning to it (after bidding it farewell in 2017's phenomenal Logan) is just too exciting. Throw in the comic-accurate suit and the mask, and well that's just too amazing for words to describe.
Deadpool and Wolverine arrives in movie theaters on July 26, 2024.
