When Tyler Hoechlin was cast as Superman in Supergirl, fans lost their minds. Not only did it mean the Man of Steel was coming to the Arrowverse, it meant that we had a phenomenal casting. Yes, Hoechlin was an unexpected choice, known for the rugged antihero Derek Hale in Teen Wolf, but that presented him with an opportunity to surprise - and he did.

From the first time he donned the cape in the season 2 premiere, he looked the part. The suit was a mostly traditional modern Superman suit, with the all blue bodysuit (minus the red trunks) and long red cape. Although, there were some alterations to make it unique to the Arrowverse, such as a much bigger House of El symbol on the chest, and large sockets for the cape that paid tribute to the Injustice Superman.

While the suit could have done with a little padding (like its successors in Superman and Lois), it was overall a great design, marking a significant improvement over almost all other TV iterations of it. The all-black version that Hoechlin donned in the Elseworlds crossover (and the first season of Superman and Lois) is even cooler.

Hoechlin has etched his place in history as Superman, and we owe it all to his debut on Supergirl. He didn't just look the part, he is the part.
