No one has had a more impressive year in Hollywood than Robert Pattinson. The English actor has already earned rave reviews for performances in The Drama, The Odyssey, and Primetime, and he still has Dune: Part Three coming up in December. His Dune co-stars have already begun praising Pattinson for his performance as Scytale, but Pattinson is no stranger to being showered with appreciation for his work.
Since he became a household name with Harry Potter and The Twilight Saga, Pattinson has transformed himself into a dependable actor with many impressive performances in movies like The Lifehouse, Tenet, The Devil All The Time, and Good Time. Pattinson wasn't afraid to put his stardom aside in favor of taking roles in movies that probably weren't seen by most of his fans.
Nevertheless, his stardom and the strong reputation he earned for his talent proved to be useful eventually. Pattinson returned to the limelight with The Batman, and since then, he has taken projects where he isn't always the main character but still steals the show. From franchises and science fiction to superhero roles, he has done it all.
Pattinson's fandom has grown from giddy teenagers and dedicated young women to include men of all ages after The Batman. Right now, everyone is thrilled that the multi-talented star, who also knows how to sing, play the guitar, and write songs, could finally be recognized during the upcoming awards season. He has certainly earned the buzz, but the reality might be a bit different. Pattinson might be suffering from success this year.
While the Academy has changed rules and an actor can be nominated twice in the same category, Pattinson's multiple acclaimed performances could lead to votes being split. Pattinson and his producers will have to decide which battles are worth fighting. Should he focus on a Best Actor campaign for his performance as Chris Hansen in Primetime or target a Best Supporting Actor nomination for his villainous turn as Scytale in Dune: Part Three? In addition to competing with himself, Pattinson will also compete with his co-stars, although that might pale in comparison to the competition he faces from himself.
If there's a campaign to get Pattinson a nomination for his performance as Antinous, he'll collide with his The Odyssey co-star, John Leguizamo, who has also earned rave reviews. While Pattinson's outstanding year proves how versatile and talented he is, it may also hurt his chances this awards season. Unless there is a singular, highly focused studio campaign for Pattinson for one or two selected performances, his chances of winning may not be as high as they should be.
As much as Pattinson deserves some hardware, this might not be his year after all. It's more than a little unfair, proving just how flawed the award system is. A performer like Robert Pattinson should've probably won an acting award a long time ago.
