News surrounding Avengers: Doomsday will continue to roll in until the day the movie premieres. Even then, surprises will undoubtedly leak the day the movie debuts. We can also expect rumors and news about the storylines that almost happened and the actors who were close to appearing long after the film is out of theaters.
Speaking of actors, one of the most popular performers has teased a potential return as his beloved Marvel character in Avengers: Doomsday. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ryan Reynolds is set to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the Merc with a Mouth, Deadpool. And, shocking to no one, the report says not to expect Deadpool to join the Avengers.
Although Deadpool has been rumored to appear in the move for some time, Reynolds has never been officially confirmed as a cast member. Deadline has even previously reported that the character isn't expected to appear in Avengers: Doomsday or its sequel Avengers: Secret Wars, so the mystery continues. But regardless to whether he does return or not, the fact remains that he absolutely should be involved in some capacity. And hey, let's not forget that Reynolds himself teased a return too.
If we’re going by the Instagram post he shared recently (that you can see below), fans could see Wade Wilson on Doom’s side of things.
It may be shocking to some to think that Deadpool would join Doctor Doom since he’s trying to be a hero. However, it’s easy to see Wade being manipulated by a Victor von Doom who looks like Tony Stark. Or, and this would make more sense, Wade could truly believe in whatever Doom’s plan is. Victor could be stopping the end of the multiverse, leaving Wade to know the only way to save the people he loves is to follow Doom’s lead.
Regardless of the reason for Deadpool potentially joining the amazing Avengers: Doomsday lineup, bringing Ryan Reynolds in would be a smart move on Marvel Studios’ part. Because, no matter how you feel about the Deadpool trilogy, they made a lot of money, and people love the character. Reintroducing him in an Avengers movie is a way to ensure that more audiences would see it in theaters, while also generating a lot of conversation about any potential role he might have.
People will begin to speculate what Deadpool’s role could be if the reports are true, just like this writer did in this article. We saw Thor hold Wade during Deadpool and Wolverine, and it looked like Wade was dying. With that in mind, we need to know if that’s something that will happen in the future. If it is, does that mean the end of this phase spells the end of Ryan Reynolds' time in the red and black costume? And how could Deadpool be killed? Did the God of Thunder land the final blow that kills him, and that's the reason for this somber moment is due to regret?

If Deadpool is truly in Avengers: Doomsday, it likely won't be the last surprise. With that in mind, we’ll now have to wonder who else is coming. An event this big means Marvel characters from the past are coming. And not just the ones from the MCU.
We already know a lot of Fox’s X-Men will appear (among them being Alan Cumming's Nightcrawler). Meanwhile, original X-Men performers like Halle Berry and Hugh Jackman have yet to be cast in it. Berry has gone on record saying she isn’t in the movie, but we know that may not be true as Marvel stars simply don't reveal secrets. For now, we’ll have to wait for more reports to come in to see who and what’s next for Avengers: Doomsday.
Of course the potential casting of Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool in the movie has been the most chaotic of them all. You know that's how Deadpool likes to be. In the meantime, we'll just hope that he does make his presence felt at some point or another. Given his importance to the multiverse in Deadpool and Wolverine, it would only be fitting for him to be featured in one of the two big movies designed to close out the Multiverse Saga.
