After more than a six-year hiatus, audiences worldwide will venture into the dark and twisted streets of Hell's Kitchen once again to see what horrors lie in Matt Murdock's path. The devil is finally back in Daredevil: Born Again, and there are plenty of reasons to be excited about his first stand-alone series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
For starters, the official trailers released so far depict a bloody journey that will also feature the comeback of fan favorites such as The Punisher, The Kingpin of Crime, and Karen Page. Furthermore, early reactions are claiming the show is a worthy follow-up to its Netflix predecessor with even better fight choreographies this time around. Now, it was revealed that a shocking MCU reference will take place in an early episode — potentially opening the door for an amazing crossover to happen in the future. But before we continue, we need to address the elephant in the room: There will be minor spoilers ahead. So if you don't want any surprises ruined, then it's better to turn back now.
Still here? Great, then let's break down what twists await us once Daredevil Born Again hits the small screen.

The Kingpin will reference Spider-Man in Daredevil: Born Again
During an interview with Jake's Takes, it was revealed that Wilson Fisk will talk about "a kid dressed like a spider" in the second episode of Daredevil: Born Again. This is, of course, a reference to none other than Spider-Man himself. It might be a small easter egg, but it may set up the pieces for a bigger crossover down the line.
Superhero insider HolyField News reported last year that the wall-crawler would be mentioned by Fisk (which turned out to be true). Furthermore, the same source also revealed that Spidey would be seen on a news channel in the series. To add a bit more fuel to the fire, Daredevil: Born Again showrunner, Dario Scardapane, stated that audiences will see a character they "never thought they would". So at this point, it's all but confirmed that Peter Parker will steal a bit of the spotlight in Matt Murdock's upcoming project.
But what does that mean moving forward? Well, it's been reported that once credits roll on Avengers: Secret Wars and the MCU's Multiverse Saga is over, there will be a proper team-up between Spider-Man and Daredevil. Furthermore, the wall-crawler's fifth "stand-alone" movie is rumored to be a direct adaptation of the Devil's Reign comic book arc — a story where The Kingpin and Matt Murdock have protagonistic roles. And wouldn't you know it, but the events of Devil's Reign only happened because Wilson Fisk became the mayor of New York — an arc that's confirmed to take place in Daredevil: Born Again.
All the pieces seem to perfectly fall into place for it to be a coincidence. Granted, it's better if we keep our expectations low until an official Spidey and Daredevil crossover is officially announced. However, we can't forget the two characters briefly met during the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which only indicates that Marvel is aware of how big their friendship is on comic book pages and would like to do something similar on the big screen.
Unfortunately, setting up such an anticipated crossover might come with legal issues along the way. Sony currently holds the rights to Spider-Man adaptations, which include the long-form, live-action television format (as Marvel TV boss Brad Winderbaum revealed in an interview with Brandon Davis). That means Disney is able to create animated series with 30-minute-long episodes such as Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, but things get a bit more complicated when it comes to Tom Holland's iteration of the character.
It took a lot of blood and sweat to finally get Spider-Man into the MCU. Unfortunately, a lot more work might still be done for him to star in a crossover project with the Devil of Hell's Kitchen. That's why even the smallest of easter eggs in Daredevil: Born Again might be a huge victory in the big scheme of things. Hopefully, the two street-level heroes are able to finally meet (with their costumes on, this time around) and stop the Kingpin of Crime from bending the law in his favor sooner rather than later.
The first two episodes of Daredevil: Born Again will be released on March 4, 2025, on Disney Plus.
