Sony surprises Marvel fans with the first 18 minutes of Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Here comes the Spider-Man. While the world is waiting to watch Brand New Day, a lucky few were able to witness the film's opening at CineEurope.

To say Spider-Man: Brand New Day is one of the most anticipated superhero projects on the horizon would be an understatement. The film's first trailer broke the record for being the fastest ever to surpass one billion views. Additionally, the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movie has already grossed $40 million in domestic presales alone and is tracking to have a $250 million opening weekend in the US.

It's been nearly five years since we last saw the wall-crawler on the big screen, and no one wants to miss his big return—especially given how much secrecy there is surrounding his upcoming adventure. Despite the fact that multiple sequences were shot on location, there's still a lot we don't know about Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Tom Holland has confirmed the main villain remains under wraps, and fans are eager to discover whether Sadie Sink is indeed playing the role of Jean Grey. There are many burning questions in store, but a lucky few may already know some of the answers.

Sony screened the first 18 minutes of Spider-Man: Brand New Day at CineEurope

Sony unveiled its upcoming slate at CineEurope 2026, a major event in Barcelona that began on June 22 and will run until June 25. The studio didn't pull any punches, as ScreenDaily reports that the first 18 opening minutes of the upcoming Resident Evil movie were screened. The upcoming zombie project—helmed by Weapons director Zach Cregger—is looking to break the franchise's curse of poorly received live-action projects. However, the surprises didn't end there, as Sony concluded its panel by showing the first 18 opening minutes of Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

There are two key things to note here. First and foremost, spoilers could technically make their way online from now on, so we should be wary in the days to come (although it is worth pointing out that security is always very tight at those kinds of events). But perhaps the most important detail is that reactions to the film's opening haven't made their way online at the time of writing this. On the bright side, we might already know whether the wall-crawler's upcoming adventure will be released to critical success thanks to test screenings.

It has been reported that Spider-Man: Brand New Day has been testing "off the charts", with some stating it is as good as Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2. However, audiences seem divided on its ending, but it wasn't revealed why. Perhaps Marvel will try to shoehorn in an Avengers: Doomsday tease, or maybe the wall-crawler is bound to lose his upcoming battle. But aside from that detail, it seems audiences will be in for an amazing time.

Sony also showed footage of several upcoming films at CineEurope 2026 in addition to Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Resident Evil. Attendees got to witness trailers for highly anticipated releases like Jumanji: Open World, Insidious: Out Of The Further, Evil Dead Burn, The Nightingale, and even Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, which is slated to be released next year. Unfortunately, there isn't a breakdown of the footage shown, and fans are still waiting to get a glimpse of Miles Morales' next adventure.

The fact that Sony showed the opening of Spider-Man: Brand New Day could signal that the studio is gearing up for a major promotional push. After all, we're just a little over a month away from watching the wall-crawler's next movie. New TV spots are already revealing the appearance of previously unannounced villains, and toy leaks might have confirmed the identity of Sadie Sink's mystery character.

The whole world is eager to see what surprises Sony and Marvel have in store for us, and the best part is that we won't have to wait long to find out. Spider-Man: Brand New Day will swing into theaters on Jul. 31, 2026.
